Yes.. i am still experimenting AND seeing if there are any bugs... So far, none found.. But Im trying..
Yesterday, i only ran ONE channel of the KGB as a DI out to FOH at a rehearsal studio... So i didn't try it as a Preamp to rig and separate DI.. and in place of the REDDI for the first time on years...
I am using Westone ES3 for my IEMs.. I am Very used to that set up.. So I can hear a difference..
If i were not so used to the REDDI config, i may be hard placed to tell .
The KGB at this time seems very very similar to the REDDI. but the REDDI is a but more TUBEY.. Duhhhhh
I can honestly say ( I think ) that the KGB is like a Solid State sort of REDDI... It does have transformers... Two of them... One per channel.
The KGB has ALLOT of GAIN... Much more than the REDDI... and can drive a poweramp with ease..
The KGB can also be overdriven if you want super high end preamp slamming a transformer.. The transformer saturates and gets a nice cushy compressed type tone..
Peter said that if you want,,, you can feed channel A/1 output into channel B/2 input to super drive the channel B then use Channel B VOL as output to amp or recording desk.

Its a unique sounding tool...
I was heading to the rehearsal joint today but called it off. I am suffering- literally, from carpel tunnel or my neck issues right now. and need to rest before some gigs this week that are out of town so i am not going to get to try some options that i had planned. And i don't want to experiment on these gigs.

The KGB does clean real well. at least as nice as teh REDDI.. But its that squishy compression thing that it does that i cant forget about... Its not tube Squish... I may be incorrect but i think it is Transformer squish.. when driving it hard, the Transformer saturates.. and it has such a smoothness.. Maybe thats partly what happens with Tube amps and why they sound so nice and smooth.. Trannys getting saturated? i dont know enough about it..

From what i understand , this is NOT the final product from A Design. The Metal work is all going to be changed .. This is just a preliminary guts check and in a square box..
And it has plenty of GAIN to hit a protools rig without having to put a preamp inline it is a DI with enough GAIN to drive anything

Yeah, that clean sound though!!!

I love my REDDI! It blows me away every time, but it really blew me away at our Easter service. Since we are talking about saturated trannys, let me think of some adjectives that come to mind:

Wide, Thick, Deep, Sweet and Juicy!! :bassist:

I just got back from a bass tracking session. To my surprise they had a Retrospec Juice Box which he was prepared to run my bass thru. I always bring my REDDI with me just in case and I asked if we could A/B them. The REDDI has a much rounder and fuller sound. The Juicebox was flatter and more neutral. I preferred the REDDI personally so we went with that. I used my Sadowsky NYC 5 String and ran that into an Origin Cali 76 1176 clone compressor and from there to the REDDI. I attached a photo from tonight's session.

REDDI showed up today. It sounds great!

I played it for about 45 minutes today before I had to get down to some school work. 2005 MIA 62 RI Jazz > REDDI > Digi 002 into Pro Tools > KRK 8's (not the most incredible monitors, but I should have some Focal CMS 50's coming sooner rather than later.) I actually heard some harmonic content that I don't get out of the normal DI/interface setups I currently use. We put on the Valhalla reverb and I went to town for a bit.

Can't wait for my Duet 2 interface to show up so I can start playing bass late at night FOR REAL.

Also! It's bigger than I anticipated! ;):thumbsup::cool::eyebrow:

Maybe instead of a new fretless bass I should get one of these. I don't record but I play at church and we are getting a new room with new line array speakers, 2 pairs (4 cabs) of 18" subs, etc. etc. I wonder how my Roscoe would sound thru a REDDI into that type of PA.

I know we have similar IEM's and I know you really like your bass thru the REDDI in your Westone IEM's so I'm more curious about that than FOH as I do virtually all my gigs via IEM.

I do allot of weird and some great gigs.. I did a huge outdoor redeo this past week.. FOH guy was ex Clarie Bros and ex Showco guy.. He has Worked will ALL the huge names and biggest rigs on earth in some of the biggest names etc etc etc.. blah balh..
anyway, he sent me an email yesterday saying how my tone blew him away in a good way... He actually came to the stage and inspected the REDDI...and asked allot of questions
The PA that day was some Big JBL thing line array type..
But Ive used my REDDI on Meyer systems ( that sounds INCREDIBLE) and carvin and Beringer systems.. church systems etc,, actually that new Beringer M32 is quite a nice Mixer Its MIDAS!
In every instance .. the sound guy will always come to me and ask me what the RED thing is.. And just go on and on about how he liked it and then usually will attempt or actually go out and get one..
I did a video shoot last week , PA was ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh.. but what went to the Protools rig was great.. Production crew were impressed with the REDDi and he too inquired where to get one. I always tell them Sweetwater has them...


EDIT.. I also do a church gig from time to time when i am at home. They have a nice Line Array system with subs.. That FOh team loves the REDDI and are trying to get their main guy to get them one instead of their (as they claim (Lifeless) not my words, theirs)xxxxxxx brand box.
