Ive been using my REDDI for about 6 years.. And once you play it you cant go back,, Thick and girthy is the right description.... Like buttah too

REDDI Tube DI Mega Thread . Potential megathread that is.

Kirk's right. Never thought I'd be joined at the hip with a 10 lb DI, and I wasn't even sure if I'd like it better than a cab mic, but danged if I don't like it better than anything. And if you think the difference is major on a cheap recording to a digital computer device, you should hear the difference in a good PA!
Once you identify a component in the sound that is irritating, you latch onto it like a dog that won't let go of a bone. You hear it and it is always there.
Using a high end piece of gear can help reveal the flaws in other products and makes it hard to go back.

Truer words never spoken. That's how I feel. I tried to live with the cheaper stuff and I just can't. Cheap basses any day of the week, but the amps have to be good.
Yay! Just got my Barber Linden pedal half an hour before I go to my gig! That means I can free my upright's signal path from the VT's stepping on it with speaker sim! Nice! Now I have to quickly figure it out. Hmm, volume, treble, bass. OK, figured...but what's this switch? Oh good, it comes with a manual!

Other getting our last hour rained out and having to move stuff in garbage bags and tarps and drive home soaked, it was great! This thing is universally loved by every soundman I've worked with since I got it, and just as rich a sound as I ever heard in a bass. Thank you for inventing such an awesome DI, Peter. All the best!
Sorry if it's been asked already but .... on the back it references diff mains voltages but does the REDDI need to be rewired? or just needs a fuse change? It doesn't specify in the manual.
Don't know but they have an Australian distributor, so getting one that runs on 240 shouldn't be a problem.

On the back where the AC input is.. Where you plug in your IEC AC cable.. you would need to use a Butter knife or a screw driver to pop open a small little draw on the plug itself.. There is a mini PC card with a spare fuse in that... Just rotate the PC card so the correct VOLTAGE is showing in the window and slide the card back in and you should be "REDDI "

OK. Did my own test with the reddi. I will be using mostly for recording. Let me first say the reddi sounds great and adds warmth & thickness. The notes are defined, but in a controlled way...not harsh sounding when playing in the upper register.
1) bass > Focurite ISA One pre DI > soundcard > cpu
2) bass > Radial JDI > ISA One line in > soundcard > cpu
3) bass > Reddi > ISA ONe line in > soundcard > cpu
I'll keep it simple. The Radial JDI was no competition. So the battle was between the Reddi and ISA One DI. Both were pretty close to my ear, but th reddi won because of the warmth and thickness. the Isa One was warm, but the reddi had that fatness.
The only problem for me is, is it worth keeping the reddi? I could see if it was a great big difference, but to my ears the ISA One could satisfy me for recording. But, I do like the reddi also. Decisions, decisions...Hands down I could hear a difference from my monitors and see why players like using the reddi as a live DI. Will see what I decide to do. Peace!

More REDDI goodness. This was my rig for last nights gig. I'll use it tonight too, but no PA support...so unfortunately no REDDI.

diglo, got no experience with the Focusrite, but you'll always need a mic pre for recording and that one looks cool. You probably can get some very nice bass sounds using it. But sitting and listening to the REDDI by itself is nothing compared to what you hear when you use it in a mix. When you don't have to add EQ and distortion to get the high notes to not lose bottom, when the top end sounds present but never overbearing, and when you hear the overall balls it brings that just doesn't exist without the big iron, that's when you appreciate the REDDI most of all. If the Focusrite is getting it done for you, then I certainly can't argue. It's your money to spend as you see fit, and I don't like to spend money either, so I can't blame you. But before you send it back, I'd try recording a new bass track on one of your older songs you may have recorded with the REDDI, then compare the two. Listening to naked tracks by themselves does tell you a lot, but it really doesn't tell the whole story.

@Jimmy...I'm going to try it out at church today. The church I play for doesnt have a building yet, so we meet in another church. They have a house engineer, but we don't get the 5 star treatment with sound. It's straight plug & play. The pastor and piano only ones that gets directed to house. But, I'm going to make him run me today. I'll let you know my outcome.
