REDDI Tube DI Mega Thread . Potential megathread that is.

I'm OK. I've been trying to figure out every reason to return the Reddi, but I can't! Played it at church today, the sound-man said it sounded great. He said, " I had some DI's you could use, but they don't sound like that!" This was my first time going through house, so I have some adjusting to do with reference monitors. I used my cab for that. The sound-man was glad I used the reddi because he could balance the sound better. Well anyway, after the good response at church and listening to the tracks I recorded last night....the Reddi has found a home. Thanks Jimmy and Kirk for responding to all the PM's I sent you guys. Peace!

So I busted out the REDDI and VT Deluxe today trying to see if I could learn to get along with the VT as overdrive, and then I figured I'd do a listening test on here to see if folks could tell the difference between a VTD running clean and set to near flat and a REDDI with the same type of low and high end rolloffs as the VT.

Still not buying it over a tube OD or cranking the B-15 and micing, and I've spent a half hour trying to EQ the VT's gankiness out of it to be fair, and I'll tell you, it's hard to get rid of the gank. I think I got it close, but to me it's respectable for SS but still quite noticeable which is which. But I don't know...here's the tracks without telling you which is which...what do you guys think?

To my ears, it doesn't sound like the VTD has more gank as it just has less bottom, like you needed to dial up just a bit more bass on the VTD, and maybe add a little more Drive also. I can't say there's a lot of difference to the sound there myself, and I love the REDDI!

Ya Jason, won't poop on the VT. But I guess you have to do a gig with the REDDI to appreciate what it does for the bass over the VT. I'm sure some folks listened to those tracks and it probably elevated the view of the VT in some people's eyes ;) But it just never got it done for me the way the real thing does.

Glad you got to actually work with it live and see what it can do. More of its capabilities will be revealed to you when you start recording with it. And the sticker shock does wear off ;)

So Stingray, you went for one, too, eh? You sold your B-15, didn't you? If you did, this'll help you get over it.

Jimmy...yep, sold my early 70's B-15N, but have no fear because I have another one on the way. 1966 baby! I got the REDDI so I could have that sound in an super portable format. Well...portable at least. :bassist:

Oh, I believe it completely. There's no doubt you can tell the difference when using something as high-quality as the REDDI. I've noticed that just using something like the VT into a nice tube-pre makes the VT way more natural feeling also. I'm glad you are digging it. I've only used one a couple of times and it was pure bliss for certain. Glad it's working out for you! I was just commenting that it sounds like you needed to dial up a bit more low end on the VTD to match the tonal print of the REDDI in those to clips.

It is so lightweight.. Super light Alder body...
Jimmy made it as a NAMM show attention getter last year..
I first saw it and thought my god.. no way....
Then the more i heard our friends on TB stating how punchy it is when they went to the shop.... I said Jimmy, Ill send you back my KBP5 custom for that one...
I had to have it... Wasn't sure if the guys in Point Blank were gonna dig it.. but they do.. sound man like it too...

On cool gigs like that .. every hotshot guitar player in the country is there./ bonnamasa, derringer, the guys from Heart,, Andy Timmons.. the list is endless. and some bass players too. So i brought the REDDI just to goose the soundman into turning me up more.. hahah
