REDDI Tube DI Mega Thread . Potential megathread that is.

Not open for further replies.
. . . coming in here and saying that people are crazy, or dumb for buying a REDDI?
Harumph-aroooo-dawgie . . . Those are solely your words, JoshB . . . From your mind, to your mouth . . . Those words are not in my post . . . only yours . . .

Quite to the contrary . . . I fully support the positive experiences with Reddi that are stated in this thread . . . In fact, it was from my respect and belief in all of you that lead me to spend a couple of hours, using several monitoring platforms, to formulate my observations . . . Also, I have plenty of experience with the DIs thus noted . . .

Might want to re-think your strategy. Not only is it disrespectful to folks, it makes you seem to be a jerk . . .
Nice line of respect from you . . . As my dear grandma used to say, "The advice given is usually the best to be taken by the giver. . . ";)

Regardless, all the DI's you listed ARE, in fact, great DI's!
Yup . . . Glad you see the forest . . . and that you actually did understand the point of the post . . . that was actually formulated from the perspective that the Reddi is cool . . . Hence, it was the standard from which others were judged . . .

So, I wonder . . . Why so much upset and misinterpretation over . . . what? Sure, this is a megathread . . . And Reddi certainly has ardent fans . . . You guys have elevated it to be the one that beats all others . . . I put it to the test . . . Sure, the Reddi's a champ . . . among many other great contenders . . .

In the right hands, any of them can be a king in the studio or onstage . . .

Are you ready for that idea?

Peace :)

Commercial users may not:

-- Post pricing information and other sales dialogue (must be confined to private conversations with TB users (PM or email)).

Seems pretty straightforward to me that Greg at RocketMusic didn't violate the commercial user policy (CUP). Seems pretty clear that kittonian did, regardless of the merits of his business in general, and regardless of whether he thought he was doing us a favor. It's not about protecting his turf; it's about following the CUP.

I'm only posting this to take some of the slack off Greg, who, being a business owner, cannot be seen as impartial. I like TB because, unlike Gearslutz, it's not filled with commercial user spam. And, sorry, but having a business owner post his email address and offering to host a group buy is straight-up spam.

Link to CUP.

Now let's get back on topic. The REDDI is fantastic. It is also a heck of a lot bigger than I thought it would be when I ordered it. Definitely not a 'slip it into your gig bag' sort of thing.

: )

I work for a dealer, but the only reason I'm part of this thread is because I am a REDDI fan. I own one and use it live and in the studio. My basses have never sounded better. I believe you have to use one to really appreciate what it does and why it's worth it. There are lots of fine DIs, and I own several, but my favorite is the REDDI.

Might want to read up on the phrase "Drinking the Kool-Aid" then...as it generally refers to people blindly following a particular belief or conviction. Which most of us are not. As far as I can tell in this thread, most of us gushing about the REDDI either own, or use other DI's as well.

Then, since you have no personal experience with the REDDI, may I suggest you either go use one yourself, in a setting you feel comfortable in, rather than getting on us for liking our DI's?

Nice line of respect from you . . . As my dear grandma used to say, "The advice given is usually the best to be taken by the giver. . . ";)

Taken out of context like that, I can see how you think it was disrespectful. However, the entire part of that post was saying that by doing what you're doing, it makes you SEEM like a jerk in the context of this thread, but I also put the caveat that I don't know you personally, so I cannot say anything for sure.

Actually, yes...I'd say that most of us can accept that idea. However, since we have our REDDI's, and prefer them over those other DI's, we choose to use them in most situations.

SO, are you ready for the idea that even given the choices most of us have in DI's, we reach for our REDDI more than anything else? 'Cause you certainly don't seem ready... ;)

Thanks Josh, I hope you put this to rest, and I'm glad you chimed in, seriously.

And Greg was gracious enough to smooth things over (though he was right to begin with). I've spoken with him over the phone (as have many of us) and I know him to be a stand up guy. He wasn't 'protecting his turf', he was just making sure everyone followed the rules of this forum, as he does. Level playing field and all...

Sorry for the interjection :hiding:

You seem to have an axe to grind. .Please take it up with a mod behind the scenes..Not here... I really want the thread to get back ion track.. Thank you..
and not be closed down..

Hmmm . . . non mods referencing and interpreting TB policy and rules . . . I sense that a true mod might appear soon . . . One that actually knows, follows, and tows the TB line. . .

So, yes, back on topic: My has anyone noticed that the Reddi is really, I mean really red . . . none of the other DIs have that !

+1 to everything . .Only I don't work for a dealer.. Im a bass player that pays my bills by playing bass... Just a player here

I actually just did a few comparison clips for Jule Amps a week or two ago, with the Monique, REDDI, Type 85, and a Radial J48.

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Recording methodology is listed there on the page, but basically, I took a clip recorded by a good friend of mine, and then reamped it into each of the DI's.

I'll tell you what. I still love my REDDI, but the other DI's really did hold their own.

Imagine that . . . Your comparison affirms the similar observations of comparisons by other posters in this thread.

But we'll all agree that the Reddi is certainly physically bigger than all others.

Still, it's nice to know that a great DI is also able to be little . . . :D

actually, upon reviewing this thread, it seems to me that you're the only person posting anything negative regarding the reddi, which apparently, from your earlier posting, is based on internet audio clips being the source of your experience with this box. :eyebrow:

earlier, josh suggested you might want to rethink your posting strategy. let me concur with that opinion. furthermore, let me also add that coming into a thread of gear users/lovers and heavily implying that they "drank the koolaid" by not buying a cheaper piece of gear is not only often considered "jerk-y" but also, in fact, generally considered trolling.

and as a site admin, i personally consider folks singling out one of our volunteer mods for such negative, targetted "attention" particularly inappropriate. i'd suggest any further pointed discussion you'd like to direct toward josh be confined to private messages, at the very least.

i don't think josh has said anything inappropriate to you, or about you, and i don't think that any of his posts warrant your apparent ire toward him. in fact, i think he's shown remarkable restraint toward someone obviously intentionally playing the spoiler at his expense.

and no, i don't own a reddi, nor have i ever tried one, although i do like some koolaid when it gets hot out.

so now, that's 2 site admins chiming in, either implying, or spelling it out, that it would be in your best interest to drop your current agenda in this thread. i'm sure, if it is required, we could get Mr. Wilson in here to make it unanimous.

by all means, share your experiences. by all means, share your opinions, -especially- if your experience or opinions differ from the norm, or -gasp- are flat out negative. this can be accomplished with respect toward others who don't share your point of view, however, and it needs to be, in a thread of such users, here on talkbass.

+1

and at he risk of getting back on topic, I have not used or heard a Reddi live, but based on the clips over on BassTasters, this bad boy holds up really well to my Millennia STT1. In fact, I will try one as a front end 'color box' ... gotta check one out!

Mightily impressed.

I tried the Millenia.. It is a nice box.. Very nice.. But I own a REDDI... I also had the UA solo610 before the REDDI..but yup, i only have a REDDI for almost 4 years now. .It has become my secret Weapon .. hahha.. Not so secret now...
I get to work with some engineers in recording and live situations that have some hefty credits. some with Grammys.. and one said to me, dont come without your REDDI..
It ads heft to notes.. Its a 3D thing.. hard for me to describe but when you play it and hear it in your IEMS.. the proof is in the pudding as they say..

Anyone have their REDDI attached to a pedal board? It would be nice to be able to have that and my pedals all-in-one for IEM/Direct situations.

The REDDI is bigger than you might imagine (roughly 14.5" x 4" x 3.5") and not exactly light (7.5 lbs). It's not ideal for a pedal board IMHO, but I'm sure you could work something up if you really wanted to do that.

I wouldn't trust velcro to keep it on a board, you'd need a stronger way to secure it. Maybe that Power Grip stuff from Godlyke... maybe...

Right. I'm aware of the size on it and that's why I was wondering if anyone has successfully done it.

Setting it off to the side is always a possibility, of course.
