Reiner Amplification Megathread

Interesting. I thought WJ were supposed to be the most revealing cabs around...?

Absolutely ... but in this case (the WJ being self powered) it only allows me to access the Saturn V's pre section from the DI (set to Post) driving the Pascal power section of the WJ. Sounds great for sure but the full Saturn V experience is only had when a Passive cab is driven from the Power Out instead.

The above said, the Pre section sounds FANTASTIC!
You won't get this sound anywhere else ...

I finally had a chance to take my new Saturn V for a spin

Wow!!!!!! U need to try it to believe it. I have been looking for a lightweight solution for shows and grab and go jams. My amps are all heavy tube amps that I absolutely love

The Saturn V "feels" and responds like a proper tube amp. The depth and heft that are missing from most non tube amps is absolutely there in the Saturn

I had to keep turning around to remind myself I wasn't using my 400 watt all tube amp

These things are absolutely amazing!!!!!!!

I couldn't tell for sure if you were impressed. ;););) All kidding aside, thanks for your forthright and passionate review! I'm lucky to be able to leave my 60lb tube amp in one place (church sanctuary). From the sounds of it, this is the only light amp that would satisfy like my Reeves.

I think so....I have been looking for something so I don't have to move my 100lbs Verellen Meatsmoke/DR405 2 channel. The Saturn is voiced differently of course but has the feel and weight of sound like a true tube amp. I've been through the usual suspects of class D and the Saturn has ended that search

My experience with the Saturn V: I play through it with all eq “flat”. It sounds absolutely perfect, no need to change anything. So naturally I mess with the eq, boost the low mids, the highs, cut the lows, etc. It sounds radically different. And... absolutely perfect, no matter what I do. It even sounds wonderful with the low mids cut, which I normally hate.

There’s just something about the feel and the delivery of each note that makes every note sound great. Like a great tube amp, each note feels like it comes directly from my finger. My super bass 300 still sounds amazing, but I no longer have any desire to take it to a gig. No more amp GAS for me.

And also the look of that handle... almost worth the price of admission by itself. :)

Yesterday i finally made time to visit the JGR lab. Its been awhile so there was lots to catch up on. The new amps are amazing. The Saturn V may be the perfect amp! Any knob we turned made it sound different but not bad. Its everything I've read about here and elsewhere. Played it through several cabinets and it sounded great no matter which one was used. The Tube amp He's working on is going to be killer. imagine an SVT. Now take 2/3rds of the weight out.

The cabinets were also very cool. We played I think all of them(610, 210, 112, 110). All will have a home with someone I'm sure but the 1-12 sounded the best to me. Think I'll need two of those and soon!

My Studio 1200 still sounds good compared to all the "cool new stuff". Different but not worse. Its got a boat load of gigs under its belt and has not missed a tick yet. It may need a backup(read...excuse to get another Reiner...).

Studio, VHF, Saturn are all amazing. To my ears the Saturn is the best of the best by a certain margin, which only makes sense: Jonathan is refining his designs. Tempted as I am by the Saturn, my 3rd Reiner amp will likely be all-tube.

Ah yes...the all tube! THAT may be hard to resist!

I got the Saturn V (and I'm very glad I did, it's definltely my favorite), so that means the all-tube may have to be my 4th Reiner! What do we know about it at this point? 100 watts?

Somehow I forgot to respond to this: yes, Jonathan makes killer kabs. I own a pair of the single twelves, and they are my go-to rig: a single one covers many gigs with ease, and a pair can handle my loudest gigs.

I own another JGR cab: sealed 212 with mid driver. I believe it's designed for the all-tube amp, but it works great with the VHF. The sealed factor gives it very slight edge to my NV-tilted ears, but I have to be careful where I use it because it can't handle as much power as the Wunderkab 112s. The Wunders can handle everything the VHF700 dishes out, and also sound great.
