Reiner Amplification Megathread

P.S. I finally got a bass to match my Gasoline pedal! :D

Mostly match. Despite my camera turning it a bit blue, the bass is seafoam green. The pedal might be closer to surf green.

That bass looks amazing! I was going to ping you to see how it was coming together. What pickups did you end up with?

It's been decades since I've owned a J, and this is my first J5. This one seems a bit warmer and thicker in the mids than what I remember but of course it's got a rosewood board, stack-knob setup, and the pickups are Nordstrand split-coil. Bottom line: it's plenty J enough! Between the alder body and chunky neck it's not light, but it's not too heavy, I've done a couple full gigs with it.

Used the Saturn V last night at an outdoor wedding gig. Worked flawlessly. Used the Di. Perfect. Couldn't ask for a better tone. I left my custom Verellen home due to weight concerns with my back. But the saturn was amazing. I'm not concerned leaving the heavy sleds at home now!!!

Awesome! Did you wind it up through a big cab?

View attachment 3591231 Semi-mellow, scaled-down gig tonight with singer, acoustic guitar and canon’ player. Here’s hoping the 1200w Saturn V can keep up! LOL. Seriously though, with the form factor and light weight of the amp, not to mention the superb DI, this amp can work in any situation.
Canon would be competitive...cajon not so much. :)

The Saturn V sounded amazing my new Berg CN 212 over the weekend at AMP by Strathmore. Just wish they would have let me crank up the stage volume some more!

Killer looking rig! I almost purchased a Reiner Saturn last yr, but didn’t. I ended up going back to a Ea iAmp 800 setup.. I’ve always wanted to try a Reiner tho... I saw where the last Saturn was built, Is Jonathan still making the tube preamps ?

Part of me regrets not buying a Saturn V because IMO it's JGR's best amp, but I already own his Studio 1200 and VHF700 amps which also sound amazing... and JGR kindly modded my VHF to bring it closer to the Saturn. The big issue for me is I've got no more storage space for basses, speaker cabs, or amplifiers, so I've been staying away from the Basses and Amps forums (aside from a few subbed threads). At this point I should probably stop buying pedals, too!

Lately I've been alternating between Reiner VHF and the Darkglass 900v2 micro. The Reiner sounds better clean but I've been playing more small/cramped gigs lately and the Darkglass saves me the trouble of setting up distortion pedals. That said, I use Reiner bass cabs for every gig: a single 1x12 Wunderkab is more than sufficient for those small/cramped gigs, but I also have the option of using a pair for larger ones.

My favorite cab is my Reiner sealed 2x12, but it has ceramic drivers. At 55 pounds or so it's still manageable, but the neo Wunders are just over 30 pounds each and as noted I often use just one. Also, a pair of Wunders are more efficient (louder) by design than the 2x12, which makes them my go-to for my biggest gigs, so it's just easier to stick with the Wunders. I gotta bring out the 2x12 again sometime: it has a vintage vibe in the ballpark of my beloved Berg NV610, which I haven't used in over a year (when my stoopid loud rock band broke up).

I don't know what @JGR (ping, ping) plans to focus on next.
