Here's a section of the recorded bass part itself. There's a smidge of reverb added post production by the artist. The signal chain was modded Geddy-->Diabolik-->VT Bass.

It's a Geddy with Dimarzio Model J's upgraded with 500K volume pots and an Orange Drop cap. It's become my main recording bass these days, other than my D tuned Goldtop Casady.

I have a pair of jazz basses with Model J's and 500k pots and I find those pickups work really well with overdrive/distortion/fuzz.
To my ears there's something about the mids in them that gives them a thicker, more defined sound through any layer of dirt.
Yes, sir. The Dimarzios have an aggressive bump in the low mids that make them react beautifully with dirt!

So, I finally got a chance to give the Diabolik a proper run out last night after practice (P-bass, old bassman 135 and a 4x12)
and it's even better than I'd thought from noodling around at home with it 
The blend on it is definitely needed, as the fuzz itself can get pretty messed up, but its a good blend, it doesnt sound like separate fuzz and clean bass signals, which is something I really hate in dirt pedals. With the squeeze control up past 1 oclock, you can get some great gated sounds, really nasty (in a good way).
I was liking it, but not loving it, until I started using it after my OC-2, and lowering the volume on my bass, and then I loved it. Ive never used a fuzz on bass where turning down your volume can result in such a change to the sound it really starts to bring out the upper harmonics and octave, and with the OC-2 set to -2 and -1 with no clean signal, and the volume on the bass down somewhere between a third and half volume, I was getting the best synth tones Ive ever coaxed out of my rig.
Its a fantastic pedal, but for me is going to be more of a studio tool, as the best sounds (IMO) are squeezed out of this thing at lower input volumes. But this is a cracking pedal, and covers a lot of ground. Totally different beast to a muff, which is what I wanted...
Next up, I fancy a superfuzz

Got to briefly try a Diabolik today and I LIKE IT!
I still like the Depth Charge a bit more, but the Diabolik is another interesting flavor of fuzz. Darker, bigger, with more grunt and cool synthy artifacts. The Dialobok is less middle of the road than the DC but the Diabolik is still really user friendly.
I think that's a strength of the Diabolk, it sounds like its sits happily on the edge of going gonzo but cleverly rides the lines on the user friendly side of things. And there's a lot of tonal variety in those three knobs.
Fuzz is a subjective thing, but the price, footprint, usefulness, and badass-ness of the Diabolik make it a damn good value. If you're a fan of the brassmaster branch of the fuzz tree, I think you'll be impressed by the Diabolik.

LOVE THIS PEDAL! It's the first pedal I've been genuinely giddy about since acquiring my Depth Charge. From the opening notes, I was impressed, and I was really amazed at how much flexibility there is with just the three knobs. REALLY interactive. REALLY responsive to dynamic playing. There was a moment when playing through Andrews rig where I struck some harmonics and pretty much eargasmed all over the place. Very embarrassing.
I can't say it unseats MY DC, since apparently mine has something special, which Andrew can corroborate from our A/B session against his. They are different sounding pedals, and man, I love them both.
I spent some time comparing the Diabolik to my Silicon B:Assmaster, and they both held their own. Though there are perhaps similarities in their sound, they each bring something to the table that allow them to keep their respective places in my arsenal.
Let me say again, what a great experience I had dealing with the Malekko crew, and what a great pedal I think this is, ESPECIALLY considering its LOW, LOW, LOW, NIB price of $149 shipped to the CONUS. NUTS.

Diabolik ripped.
Brimstone XD-1 ripped.
And yes, handofseven's Depth Charge is definitely better than normal. I've owned two DC and my current one is the better of the two. His has more top end transparency and a beefier grunt in the lows. Which is not to imply it sounds scooped because it does not. Whatever mod was done to it, I want.
Said before, say again to back up handofseven's opinion; the Diabolik is a killer value.
