Should I feel bad for wanting to keep both the Diabolik and the B:Assmaster on my board?

I mean I have the room, and I have them dialed in for way different sounds...and when I combine them, I think I tear dimensions.

Never thought I would say this, but the Diabolik has replaced my B:Assmaster on my small board. I, of course, have kept my other B:Assmaster on my big board (for 6 years and counting), and the excommunicated B:Assmaster will still travel with me to rehearsals on quite the regular basis, but damn. This little blue booger is fookin' awesome.

I say keep it. Sure, it has been dethroned, but damn if the Depth Charge isn't a classic.

It's not redundant at all! It's almost like the halfway point between B:Asmaster and DC. It's got the heft of the DC (minus that fizzy top end), but the saturation and character of the B:Assmaster with the switches set left. It's a FANTASTIC fuzz! Josh, Paul, and the gang hit this one out of the park!

As much as I'd like to buy directly from Malekko, they're on Amazon Prime with free 2 day shipping and I am not a patient man. Well, I should say I've exhausted all patience waiting almost a month for a custom fuzz and an Infanem Second Voice. So 2 day shipping sounds pretty sweet. I can't wait.

Love the demos of this pedal, but I had a quick question before I pull the trigger. How do you set your volume? Meaning is it just that the more you crank the fuzz knob the louder it gets? I have always had a hard time reaching unity gain with pedals like this.

This question may have been answered before, apologies if that is the case. I want to be able to get the full spectrum of "fuzz" this thing puts out while still being able to control the volume.

The fuzz knob is a volume for the fuzz circuit. The clean knob is a seperate knob for the clean side. Jmj said that unity for the clean knob is around 10 o clock. I would start with every knob down and the clean knob at 10 then start adding fuzz.

Thanks for the comparison. I'm this close to clicking Pay Now on the Diabolik. The DC is fizzy for sure and on the flipside, the Oxide is darker than I'd like. If the Diabolik falls somewhere in the middle regarding brightness I'll probably submit....payment that is.

Darker and more lows than the stock B:Assmaster, more saturated and less fizzy than the DC.

I haven't had time to use it much in a band setting, but the rest of the band said it was the best distortion I ever brought (they usually don't care much...)

By itself it just kills. What I still need to investigate is how to use it over my xotic bb preamp, to add more dirt and low end. As much as the swollen pickle, pickle pie b and other muff based pedal didn't sound too good on their own in a band mix (imho!), they would add a lot of... a$$ when kicking in over the BB preamp. The Diabolik adds more dirt and grit, but doesn't add as much bass and sub as I would like to. But that was just one try, didn't have much time to play with settings.

I wish there was somewhere around here I could test this out. Someone should loan me theirs so I can be sure it will do the trick. Although, I think the fact that I've never seen one in the classifieds is a pretty good indicator of its awesomeness.

after playing with it more in a band setting, I really fell like a bass knob like on the Tonebender is missing.. it's not getting off my board though
