Spotted this older Electroline 4 on Reverb last night.

Rick Turner Electroline 4 string bass 1996 Transparent Red

Interesting that it has a solid mahogany body... don't recall seeing one with that particular spec. (both of mine are purported to be swamp ash)

Also curious about the single 'diamond' pickup. Anybody tried one? Maybe @Rick Turner could fill us in on that sometime?

I saw that the other day. I'm not sure about the diamond pickup either. I love having the two mag pickups on my Electroline because of the tone variety I am able to get. I've been playing it more lately with headphones and have discovered entirely new tone areas I didn't realize it had, including using both mag pickups without the piezo or just a little piezo thrown in. Blending between the two mag pickups is pretty awesome!

Regarding the body spec, the one I have is actually a solid mahogany body, although mine is lighter weight than this trans red one.

I've been fawning over the gloss black one with the Dark Star mag pickup + piezo at Heartbreaker Guitars. If it was fretless, I think I would have purchased it by now. ;-)

Bumping the thread... had the fretless Renaissance on a nice easy sit-down gig recently. (getting so I like those...) Totally a lucky shot, but I liked the way the quilted maple figure 'pops'... looks like a sea of fire.

Are you guys as glad as I am that Spring is almost here?! This Winter has really sucked here in Virginia.

Just bought a frettless 5 Ren and am settling in with it. Different beast than anything I've played. Love the response and tactile feel of it.
If you know where I can buy a dingus; I could use one.

PM me if you'd like a 'dingus' extender (careful now... ) for your new Renaissance... I have a few made up in a variety of woods, just need to drill and counter-bore for your exact screw pattern.

Congrats! They're awesome basses! Regarding the dingus, you can contact Rick's shop through the info on his website and they'll make a dingus for you. It's been several years since I had them make one so I don't remember the cost. If I recall, they'll choose a wood type that goes with your Ren.

By the way, I'm sure you know the routine here at TB... "No pics, no bass".

Thank you...I posted a pic just now. I believe it's a deluxe with cedar and walnut/abalone.
I was not sure if I liked the thing when I first plugged in but after playing a while realize the potential for different tones depending on where you pull from. I also sport acrylic nails which bite like a pick. Cutting the high end and pulling closer to the neck, as well as turning up and playing lighter and boom it blossomed.

Looks like it has the Acousticore strings on it. A couple of other strings to consider are TI Jazz flats as well as Black Tapewounds. Some like the Acousticores, others have used something different.

I've been using acousticore on my ovation nikki sixx and on that they sound terrific.
I've flats on my jazz bass and think you are right. I'm going to try them on the Ren going to get more thump and less twang
I love this phase of growing into a new instrument.
The thing I am amazed by most is the feel is so easy I find I'm playing positionaly/patterns without looking to much, and this is my first 5 string. I've shunned them in the past. This bass it feels natural to walk down there. We'll see.

I can't remember the size of the Allen Key, but be careful adjusting the truss rod on this. If I recall, you are supposed to loosen the strings and put pressure on the neck in the direction you are adjusting while adjusting the truss rod. You might ask Rick's shop for instructions when you contact them about the dingus.

I'll say this. He hit the nail on the head with this bass. I can't put it down.
Too into a yba300 and 410 Ampeg Classic it sounds like it should. My other acoustic bass can't do that without hand muting to kill the howling.
