Been lurking a while, figured I'd finally post up my rig. I think it qualifies as a Rig of Doom, but I'll let you all decide:

New York Bass Works Concert 6 Fretted
Demeter VTBP-201 Pre-amp (the old version)
Crown MA2402 Power Amp
(4) Carl Weber Audio 12" + 6.5" Bass Cabinets

Close-ups -

The Rack - The Demeter was the best sounding preamp that I found when I was putting together this rig about 11 years ago. I also demo'd a couple of Alembic Pre's, an Eden WT800 head, A SWR 900, and a few different power amps (couple of Yorkvilles, Crowns and QSC's). Nothing compared to the combination. The MA2402 is putting out ~1500 watts bridged into an 8ohm load. I've also got an EDCb PIP card in the crown that has a high pass filter set for -3dB at 32hz to help protect the drivers from over excursion. There's also an old BBE pre-amp that sat in a rehearsal room for a while, and now just sits in the rack as a "backup" to the Demeter.

One of my well-worn Carl Weber Audio Systems Cabs - 12" McCauley B1240 crossed over to a 6.5" Audax PR170M0 mid driver. About 300 watts power handling each cab. Very clean, accurate enclosure that goes alllll the way down to the low B. A single enclosure is not terribly loud - good for jazz or an acoustic ensemble with a quiet drummer, maybe. I think many of the guys I know that use them replaced a typical 4x10" with two of these enclosures. The four pack that I've got compares more to an 8x10, probably not quite as loud to the lack of distortion and inherent inefficiency that comes from tuning a low enclosure response. It rumbles pretty nice, though.

NYBW Concert 6 - this bass is a keeper. Built by luthier Dave Segal, who is a phenomenal craftsman and a super nice guy, to boot. If you can afford it you cannot go wrong with one of his basses.

• Brazilian Rosewood Fingerboard
• 36" scale length bolt on neck, side dots only
• Passive Bartolini Pickups in Jazz bass configuration. I've also got Lindy Fralin single coils that sound even more like a "authentic Jazz bass".

Is that baffle fabric stock or did you do that?

I'm in awe of some of the stuff in here. Are you guys playing gigs where the "DOOM" rig is necessary in terms of volume? Some places I play (tiny bars) if I tried to haul that in there there would be no room for the drummer!

Often, but not always, the RoD is there to provide Doom - lots of teeth rattling low end and volume. Other times it's just about filling big rooms with no pa. Many of the rigs here are more GAS based, and not always owned for practical reasons, but just because you can (see RBONNER!)

No, I did that myself when I saw a thread on here about using various kinds of cloth or construction paper on the baffles of cabs. I just went way over the top in my choice of fabric.

It took me what seems like an eternity to acquire my rig w/my minimal budget. Both cabs were CL finds. The 215RR came from a rehearsal space in Brooklyn about a yr ago where the guy who owned it just wanted the behemoth gone... the Diesel 1516 was a rescue from a rehearsal studio in Queens (the 10" and 15" were both blown when I got it, but it was dirt cheap). The 400+ was bought here in the TB Classifieds about a year or so ago.
