I read this, this morning sad only 69. Pete rocked the bass with a fierce attack and he was a thrill to watch. RIP Pete Way thanks for showing us we don’t need to hide in the shadows

Lights out in London, the definitive UFO track, and Pete's thundering bass.

I saw UFO twice, in 82 and 83 I think, both times at the Southampton Gaumont in England. I bought most of their albums on vinyl then again recently on CD. Great stuff.

Pete's stripey spandex pants and stage antics, as well as his powerful bass style, were the inspiration behind Steve Harris of Iron Maiden's stagecraft and playing, as well as many others of the same generation of bass players.

RIP Pete.

One of my bands covered this tune in 1981 in Germany at Dieter Dierks studio, the album never got picked up, thought I was going to be a star for a little while.

Great player with great stage presence. I'll never forget the first time I heard Rock Bottom. Strangers in the Night is up there among the greatest live albums ever. I never realised how clever many of his basslines were until I looked at how they slotted into the guitar parts. Beat Club dropped some spacerock-era UFO footage lately, check that out, Pete is nice and loud in the mix. His first solo album Amphetamine is also a kick*** hard rock record, really recommend that one, little bit of a Motorhead feel to it. Pete sings with a punkish, boozy snarl that suits the material.
I remember Steve Harris saying that he bought a Thunderbird because he loved Way and Entwistle but he found it too top heavy for his liking so he switched to the Precision. Guess he didn't have any problems with the striped trousers though lol.
RIP Pete, another legend gone too soon.

Just a heads up- This is NOT Canadian bassist Pete Way, longtime bassist for Brave and Crazy. THAT Pete Way is alive and well. I got a couple of calls on this.

Does anybody know more about this accident? Can't seem to find anything about it.

Fell down stairs at home, was put in a medically induced coma, never recovered.

Thats a sad way for a guy whose autobiography is called A Fast Ride Out of Here: Confessions of Rock's Most Dangerous Man.

I was expecting something a bit more Entwhistle, but then he had retired to Bournemouth, aka God's Waiting Room.
