To me, it looks like the bass is sunk an inch or so into his leg.
First time you've seen an Aerodyne Rickenbacker?

And I think I should hang out in the technique forum more often.
I never learned the three-finger plucking on the E-string.

duh

I call BS on this. Its such a low res image, I think you're just seeing what you want to see. Also, theres no surface in the photo at all comparible to the flat painted bass, so you cant really make that assumption that it doesn't fit.
The perspective, size, shadowing and texture blending are pretty spot on, which would argue its legit. It seems like the lights hitting it juuuuust right so that its reflecting evenly along the fretboard and body, which can be a lucky coincidence or could be fake.
I can't see any motivation to Photoshop this, Rickenbacker doesn't need the extra publicity, Rob doesn't need his sponsors getting pissed, and why would any individual care enough?
I say it could be shopped, but since it really doesn't matter, I'd say its legit.

I do not believe this picture to be photoshopped as it is off of the Met on tour page from a gig the other night.
You got it off Metallica's site?
If so, awesome.

I'm sorry Major Metal, but I don't believe it. (yet)
I remain skeptical until I see other pictures, even a vid of that gig popping up on YouTube.
It looks photoshopped to me.
Lighting angles are different on Rob and Rick.D)
Also, it looks like the bass should be turned some degrees to the right to make it believable that he is playing it.
I assume he is playing something on the D and G string.
Any reliable sources on the pic?
The original post of the pic, is that made by Metallica or someone who works for Metallica?
But as always, I could be wrong.
Not that I care if he does or does not play a Rick. Great bassist, great bass.
You are wrong. I logged on and checked out all the photos. They look like official concert photos. It's wise to have proof before making a negative doubtful statement. This happens all the time on TB.
