Uhhh, judging the quality of a picture that happens to have some tricky lighting nuances (AND based on limited information that most of us did not have at the time) does not equal saying that it's not possible for RT to be playing a Ric. Just that the pic did not look real at first glance.
Hell yeah! I like EMG's too. I like Ricks for Rock, but this is giving me ideas!!And it's loaded with EMG's!!?? I know he likes EMG, but that's, well, really interesting.

that is by far the coolest bass ever! played by one of the coolest ppl! would love to hear what that sounds like!
was reading in bass guitar magazine, that he's got several ricks but was unsure bout bringing them out to play in metallica, i for one am so glad that he has!
I see a man with a gun smoking a cigarette on the grassy knoll. There is no way a guy can play a bass like that. I don't buy the "magic Rickenbacker theory". It's a conspiracy.
