One of mine has a pretty non-standard setup with a John East pre and some odd wood covered pickups I can never remember the name of. But anyway, it has the coil tap toggles, and I find it can be useful to put the neck pickup in parallel and the bridge in series so the bridge is very mid-heavy -- but then I lean more towards the neck pickup and just add enough of the bridge to get the level of mids I want.
That said, I think that bass would be more easily usable with the stock Bart/Bart setup. I find my Roscoes with the more experimental pickup and pre combinations end up being my least favorites. My 6 string fretless has Nordstrands with the Audere, and that's the worst combo I have. The Audere is substantially lower output than anything else I have. I recently changed the batteries thinking that might help, but nope. Takes way too much tweaking to find the tone.
I know people like to experiment, but when I think Roscoe and I think Bart/Bart.
I had a buddy that had Brubaker build him a bass that had removable modules for the preamp. I believe that he had an Aguilar OBP-3 and Bart module. They snapped into place from the rear of the bass. Must not have worked that well because the next time I saw him he had traded it.
Hey I have an LG with slanted pickups…. Haven’t played it yet but I’m hoping to see it someday. It should come back with a set of slightly used Nordstrand pickups and Nordstrand preamp if anyone is interested. Hope that doesn’t get me suspended. ;^o
I hope so. I was hoping to be playing it in my band by now. But it’s ok, I bought a new Stingray 5 from Greg to cover my gig in the meantime lol.

We’ll see- may just require me trying it, but I think a blend knob is easier. And I don’t really use the tone knob on the basses I have with them. Different strokes for different folks though…
On another note, don’t really see a lot of bubinga topped Roscoes, besides the recent run of waterfall ones. Pretty bass, not mine.

Who in the world makes necks of solid Wenge or Purpleheart? Preposterous! Good luck ordering one of these, except from one place.

Hey there fellow Roscoe lovers! A beat up 1990's Roscoe was my first really nice bass. Unfortunately back in 2005 it was stolen. After a few years of buying and selling everything from Dingwalls, to Benaventes, to Devons, to Spectors, etc... I found another 90s Roscoe with weird old EMG electronics and an old Schaller bridge. I got it for a great deal and had my buddy Justin from J. Kennedy Guitars put an East U-Retro preamp, a Hipshot Bridge and Ultralite tuners on it. It's been my number one bass now for about a decade.
Here's a pic before the upgrades and a more recent one of a part of my collection, including the upgraded Roscoe. Do I need to do anything else to get a number?

The lovely SKB Fretless I got from Jim has Beeswing Bubinga. Eventually I’ll have three fretless Roscoe’s with Bubinga tops. It’s almost sinful accept that they are all otherwise quite different.
