Roscoe Club

Heads up. Can't believe I'm going to do this, but some unexpected bills have come up, and I will have to see if I can sell the ash four string that I recently got from Keith. Should have it in the classifieds next week.

Haven't been on here in a while, but excited now because in addition to owning an amazing Roscoe SKB 3005, I just traded a Sadowsky for this beautiful SKB 3006:

I've been fortunate enough through the years to have accumulated a collection of high-end basses, and out of all of them, the best playing, best sounding, and most comfortable to play has been the Roscoe 5.

After wanting to experiment with a 6 string, I restrung my 5 in EADC tuning and just fell in love with the way it felt and the new chordal opportunities, but I missed having the low B string. This should fix all that in spades.

Can't wait till she arrives!

I am a Sadowsky fanboy (I currently own 3 of them) and have been for a long time BUT my Roscoe SKB3005 is the BEST quality instrument I have ever owned and it is so Comfortable...will never sell my SKB

Looks like you love blondes Phillip! You now have Blondie and Blondie II.
Maybes it’s true, blondes are more fun!:D

Congratulations! She’s a beauty!

The Sadowsky I had was one of the limited edition German made ones with the walnut top.

Fantastic bass in every way, and the best Sadowsky I've ever owned. I really think the Warwick shop is doing a great job making those basses. But I just really wanted a high end 6 string and if it's good enough for Jimmy Haslip, it's good enough for me.

It is so. The wenge neck finally got me. I put in an offer on his website, and he accepted it. So I think I got it for a pretty fair price.

I’m also seriously considering a Bart/Bart Century Custom that a TB’er is looking to move….

That’s awesome. Glad to have back as an active owner!
Didn't you order all your custom builds with 20mm string spacing? You ok playing the standard 18mm string spacing these days?

Yes, all my custom builds had 20mm spacing (due to me playing Warwick SSI 5s for years).

I’ve been playing Fender American Elite J 5’s for quite a few years now, along with an EBMM SRS 5, a couple G&L 5’s, etc. So I’m not really a stickler for wide spacing anymore.

I’ve missed playing Roscoes ever since I got rid of all of mine, so I’m pretty excited to be getting back into the club again. It should be here tomorrow, so I’ll have time to restring it, set it up if needed, and will be gigging it on Saturday night.

Dear @Funkinthetrunk @JOME77 and @Fred312b just to let you know I got the output jack switched over on the Roscoe and it's sounding great. Thanks again for your help! Strangely I found it would only work with a stereo output jack :eyebrow:

Awesome!
Yes. The stereo Jack is required to turn the preamp on/off (on when the Jack is plug in and off when you unplug). Otherwise your battery would run down in a few days.

Well, it arrived today (I’d post pics but my music room is a disaster right now). Definitely a used bass—it’s in mint condition, but the case has a few scuffs, the usual Dunlop strap buttons have been replaced with some sort of Schaller type buttons, some sort of weird exposed core strings on it, and no allen wrenches or build letter from Keith included. My fault for not asking, but the ad stated “with original warranties, etc”, so I assumed it included the letter and truss rod wrench.

So, I changed the strap buttons to Dunlops, which required me to do the wood glue and toothpick trick in the screw holes since they were enlarged from the stupid Schaller buttons. Then I restrung it with DR Black Beauties and made a few minor bridge adjustments. All the while, still pouting because the build letter wasn’t included.

Now on to the rest: The neck on it is amazing. I love wenge necks, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The neck profile is pretty slim, and it feels great in my hands. Tone-wise, it really shines. It’s definitely not classic Roscoe—which I was not expecting it to be. It’s almost like if a Roscoe and a Spector had a baby. In short, it’s got enough of the bite and growl that I wanted a Spector for, that I think that itch is scratched. And it leaves the door open for a Bart/Bart Roscoe….

It gets its trial by fire tonight, I’m heading out shortly to go sound check at the venue where we’re playing a fancy corporate event tonight.

Glad to hear you’re liking it so far. Look forward to hearing how it does on your gig.
FWIW none of my Roscoes, including the NOS build I bought from Keith, came with a build letter and the only used one that came with any tools was the one I got from @JOME77.
