Roscoe Club

I'm still torn about flats. I have my Century 5 all Plek'ed and set up for the "stock D'Addario nickel rounds and I hate to mess with it. I've tried different rounds on it but I always seem to come back to stock. D'Addario and Bartolini. Just sounds Roscoe to me I guess. Same with my Classic P. Was Plek'ed and set for TI's.

I played a Fender Player Plus Percesion this weekend when I was out of town at a grad reception. I don't usually like Fenders, or the Fender active preamp, but I gotta say, this bass sounded and played better than any Fender I've tried. If I didn't have some unexpected expenses (new washer, alternator) I may have come home with it. That RARELY happens to me - with any instrument.

Anyway, I'll probably just stick with my current set up with rounds on the active 5 and flats on the passive P.

I’m not sold on the Elixrs that came on the Century JM I recently picked up and I think that bass might do well with flats. I have TIs on my fretless Spectorcore 5, but that’s a very different animal. I think I’ll give the cobalts a shot and see how I like them.

I think that you’ll love them Nate. I’ll send you a video of me playing them on my Fender Pro PJ. They fall between nickel RW’s and a true flat. Wonderful tone and feel great!

Hate to breakup the flats discussion, but it’ll be temp and short.
I bought a new in the unopened package Mogami Platinum 12ft guitar cable for $80 from a TB’er in 2019. It has been my main cable from instrument to amp/pedalboard since. Well, I started having issues with my signal breaking up and narrowed it down to the Mogami. I checked online about the warranty and it has a Life Time Warranty with no indications that it was only good for the original owner, which was me, and with a receipt for proof of purchase, which I don’t have.
To make a long story shorter, I called around and found one at Sam Ash for about $125. I asked the salesman what did I need to have other than the cable to get a replacement under the warranty, to which he told me to just bring the cable and they would work it out with the Mogami folks. Done! :hyper:

My takeaway?
1) Mogami cables are great cables with a real Life Time Warranty no matter how many hands it’s gone through.
2) These are expensive cables!

There's a TB'er who makes great cables. Basic or custom whips. Instrument, XLR, 3/8", whatever you can dream up. I have a bunch of them. Even doing right angle power for pedal boards now. Xbass Cables. Dave. ExaltBass here on TB. Just another option.
But will he honor the Mogami warranty?

Xbass cables are pretty sweet though, I bought some and started using them right away, forgot to take my instagram glamor shots ;)

I’m still curious about the Berg. If I decide the Stomp isn’t for me I may still give the berg a try. The Genzler pedals are interesting as well.
The Berg is very nice. My basses all sound really good through it. However, it’s almost too much, and not enough at the same time, based on its size, if you get what I mean. It has A LOT of options for tone shaping. It has decent sounding drives. But, it doesn’t have the other effects I need/use. My Helix, though bigger, has everything I could ever want and then some, and also sounds really, really good. So with the Berg, I’m using an HX Effects also, which puts the size close to my Helix now once they’re mounted on a board. So as much as I like the Berg, I’m probably going to end up selling it. (Yes, I did say a few posts back how it sounded so great Saturday night—but I’ve got other stuff that sounds equally as great)

The Genzler Magellan pre is fantastic. I know you’re a big Genzler fan (as am I), so you’d love it I think. Tone-wise, I think I slightly prefer the Genzler to the Super Pre. It adds just a little something extra, in a good way (just like the MG amps). I’ve got a mostly analog (only things digital are my Strymon Mobius and Iron Ether FMeron) board built around it that sounds fantastic, so that might be my summer rig.

We’ll it’s been a long time since I’ve really like the sound of a Roscoe with an Aguilar preamp paired with the Roscoe Barts but I’ve got to say I really liked the sound of my Custom Century V yesterday in the live mix and IEM’s). Maybe my ears have gotten worse over the years (or maybe they’ve miraculously gotten better).:D

And it sure looked beautiful in the stage lights! The quilt top just totally popped!

I do. I am finding that I don't use effects like I thought I might. The Stomp is good, all in one, small and versatile. But I may not keep it. I think I may be an Analog Kid (anyone catch the reference?) and might try to go back that way. Not a REDDI again as I'd like to stay smaller. Maybe a Sushi Box Finally. Or an Effectrode PC-2A tube comp into a normal DI. IDK. Maybe a Genzler pre pedal and skip the tube part. We'll see I guess.

You're looking and sounding good, Joe!

Seems like just yesterday Gard and I roadtripped down there to see the Warner Robbins crew.

Sounds great and profs on those tight 1/16 notes with the pick to open.

Thx Greg. Yeah, those were some good ole days for sure! If you ever get out this way let me know and we'll put a couple thick Rib eyes on the Green Egg and reminisce. :)
