Roscoe Club

So I hate to be negative but I am going to post my most recent experience. I posted before, which I know some of you saw that it took about three years to get my order from Roscoe. I want to say that I had two previous orders for a P bass and J bass and was very happy. I decide to order the PJ and pay extra for the finish. I was told multiple times that it was almost ready, "just a few more weeks and heard nothing. In one case a whole year went by with no answers to my emails.

I finally got it as you see picture here. It looks great, feels good and sounds good but the input had a short and the pots were dirty and were cutting out. I did not want to send it back or quite honestly deal with it anymore. I paid $107 to get it fixed and cleaned up and just be done with it. While my previous experiences were great, the last one did not go according to plan. I get that there was problems with a pandemic but I had a Valenti and Bluesman Vintage custom build without any of the program.s

Some left some snide comments to my original post. I even got a couple of PMs about those negative comments. I am simply posting here since it's a Roscoe group. Hopefully, others don't have the same experience that I did. View attachment 5260749

That's a beauty! I love the look and finish.

Someone should save this beautiful Classic 5 from guitar center…

I wish those Classic 5’s didn’t feel so huge (IMO). I’ve only played one but it was just to much bass for me. I asked Keith if he was offering the Classic in a 18mm string spacing and 34” scale yet and he said no. No immediate plans to do so either. And I get it. The Classic model should be more of a standard model without infinite configuration options. A 2 man shop can only do so much. Maybe then some of the Custom models would get completed sooner.

+1 here. I’ve never played a 4 string but the 5 was huge to me

I wish I had more specs on the fretless. I'll have to try and contact the store. Woods, electronics, etc.

I have a cart full of stuff at Apple for myself and my college bound daughter.

GC’s are terrible about listing the correct specs and literally take the worst pics that I’ve ever seen (from someone that is selling basses or guitars).

I find it odd that they make them so big, considering it’s not at all in line with what they usually do, and what most players even want from a more vintage looking bass these days…but they must sell enough of them to keep doing it that way

I have debated going wireless as well. About $1,400 (bass and ears) would get me there. Not sure if it's worth it. I don't move around a lot, but changing basses (if I decide to do that more often) would be a little easier. The MacBook purchase for my daughter and iMac for the "home studio" would probaly happen before either wireless or a fretless.

We'll see what they say if they respond.

Looks like a figured Myrtle top, Diamondwood fingerboard, Bartolini PU's, standard electronics controls (very likely Bartolini) and a 3 piece Maple neck, Body wood looks darker so it could be Mahogany. The top is not carved on that one. Sure is pretty and I'll bet it sounds great.
Those were my conclusions as well. Wasn't sure about the top, but Myrtle seems like as good a guess as any. The rest would be my guess as well.

Stopped by the shop Saturday on my way through town to say hi and lay eyes on my current build. It was a quick visit so no time for any pictures, but I should be back there soon to pick up the finished bass {fingers crossed emoji}

Keith is doing well and they are super busy. He was, as always, a gracious host. I’ve been anxious about the timing and outcome of my current build for wholly personal reasons and that’s on me. The build has progressed as it should all things considered and I’ll be excited when it’s complete.

It pains me to read @sunnycal experience, but I know it’s an unfortunate reality. I hope the joy of playing that beautiful bass will eventually ease the negative experience you had.

There’s a GC about an hour away from me.

G.C. is hit and miss but overall buying used basses from G.C. has been a win for me. I just received a Sandberg TT that's lovely. I found a Elrick at G.C. that's a favorite of mine. And there's a Warwick Thumb 5 string that's very good.

I've also returned some that either weren't what I was looking for or had some defect. G.C. covered the shipping (both ways) for the defective basses without any complaint from them. Otherwise, G.C. shipping is astonishing low so it has cost me very little when I've returned a bass that didn't suit me for whatever reason.

I put that fretless Roscoe in a shopping cart to check out the shipping. It's $19.49 to my home. I've typically driven basses to G.C. to avoid the hassle of shipping them back but I believe G.C. will send a return mailing label. The customer pays for the label, but the customer gets G.C.'s shipping rates.

My worst experiences with G.C. has been around amps but I'll leave that alone for now...

If only there was someone in this group who was looking for a fretless Century 5... at least as of a few days ago anyways, who knows what he's GASing for now :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

It's local to me, but I'm not buying ANYTHING for awhile... this time I promise ;)

Is there any chance you could get there and take a look at it and pass your thoughts on?
