Duh, I forgot about the better pics they sent Steve. Looks like the ball ends aren't entirely in the slots, and the b string isn't slotted right on the saddle... I'm not the biggest fan of the Hipshot b because I think it's a tight squeeze for the lower strings, works better with taper/exposed core strings, ime...

.... but that's not a Roscoe....

A fretless 5 is on the future list for me. I'm currently in my own "2 week'ish" period on a custom Stambaugh fretted 6. I looked really HARD at the used Roscoe market back in April when I decided to place an order, but I really wanted a single cut. But I also wanted that waterfall Bubinga Keith had a few years back.

Who knows, when I'm ready, Steve may have one available for me. ;) The diamond wood from Keith and perhaps that old epoxy from Pedulla would pull me in, but I'm not sure I want to risk the Pedulla route since his retirement. I had a fretted Pedulla 4-banger for a while but stripped everything down to a single bass just shy of 20 years ago. I know...I'll show myself to the door.

Long time listener, first time caller...

I follow this this thread frequently, even though I'm not a Roscoe owner. I enjoy the banter here and have long played the home edition of the "Will Steve buy that bass or not?" Silently cheering each anguishing decision. Thank you for one of the most entertaining threads here at TB. I appreciate Joe's recently trip down memory lane hearkening back to the days of Greg doing rapid fire recordings of the "Roscoe of the Day."

Now I do have a question about the fretless that Steve is eyeing. What is your take on that bridge? The B, E, and A strings seem to take a very awkward bend at the saddle and the gap between the B and E seems off (or it could be a bit big between the E and A string). Is it just me?

Yeah that’s the standard Hipshot Type B Bridge (which Keith uses on the STD models) and as others stated you have to insert the ball end of the string in and slide it all the way to the other end of the slot (and it appears the owner didn’t do that).
Glad to see you posting on the thread. Ownership of a Roscoe is not required for posting (although we’ll certainly do all we can to talk you into purchasing one!:)
As for Steve, we’ve almost talked him into buying dozens of Roscoes!:D

My first Roscoe (built for me) was my Century Standard 6 Plus with a beautiful quilt maple top, wenge board and jazz pups. My one and only, last bass I'll ever need. Can do anything on it, right?

I sold it as the 6 wasn't clicking.
I bought it back, thinking maybe I didn't give it a chance. Put all your other basses away, etc.
Sold it again. Maybe 6 isn't for me.
Saw it available again. Bought it back for nostalgia. My first Roscoe, etc.
Sold it. Didn't play it. Wife says if that shows up again...

A couple weeks ago, what shows up on Reverb...

Roscoe USA Century VI 6-string Bass - 2012 | Reverb

Yep. My old 6. The grain on the wenge fingerboard is ridiculous. The "veneer" top is almost as thick as a custom. If you want a great 6 string "jazz" bass, this is it. I think the price is a little high, but it's an amazing bass. If it were a 5 string (what I probably should have had built) it would still be in my possession.

I've always been curious about the Jazz type pickups on a Roscoe as I've only ever had soapbars on mine. Considering they're on a Roscoe, I'm guessing 'fat, warm, jazz'.

From what I recall yeah, warm for sure, but still had articulation. In hindsight I should have made that bass a 5 string. It would have never left my house. I was listening to and playing more contemporary jazz (Yellowjackets especially) type gigs so I was all about the 6 string. Dumb, but what can you do. Live and learn.

I totally get it. Sold my Century 6 to a TB-er 5 or 6 years ago because it wasn't being played as much as my other basses. I stay on the lookout in case it resurfaces.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained… we can’t all be Chuck M ;)

I already had my time of buying/selling Roscoe basses. Most of my gigs are on upright but I am finally playing electric bass some. Some friends and I started a new band and are playing some blues and older rock tunes and most have a jazzy vibe to them. We played our first gig Sunday and it was well received.

My rig was my Mesa Subway WD-800, one Subway 115 and my Century 5. I don't use pedals. The tone was just lovely.
