i follow you on instagram and you are an amazing bassist! Glad to see you hear in talkbass land. Im so sorry to hear you went through this as well. My build was missing alot of specs i requested so i had to send it back to Keith.
So many builders are not up to speed themselves with electronics. I've seen it many times…and trying to educate yourself on doing it right is only possible if you have time….and you don't have time if you're trying to keep up with orders. I would love to see small builders add a little cost to the price of a preamp or their basses in general, and then they could buy pre wired preamps from someplace like fatbasstone…or of course pay someone to do it for you, but I'm guessing that's even more of an expense
This saddens me to read of some of the problems with Roscoe customs lately. I've long wanted a Roscoe custom, as some of the Roscoe basses that I've played over ten years ago were fantastic. But I guess quality control can change in a shop over time.
Is this the same bass? If so, it seems like you were once pleased with it, with many compliments for the bass and Keith's effort. Interesting

Great news from the Roscoe shop.
I talked to Keith a couple weeks ago and Sanders is back working at the Roscoe shop. All you long time Roscoeheads will remember him. He brings lots of awesome experience building Roscoes and should really help Keith catch up!

I know everybody wants the best for Keith and you are being extremely forgiving. I have to say however when I received my recent $3000 custom-made base, I immediately had to take it to a Luther to have the pots cleaned and the Electronics worked on because it was shorting when I plugged in. That's not what I expect from a base of that caliber. I'm in small business too so I can sympathize but still it was cheaper for me to get it fixed here than to send it back and then wait who knows how long. I've decided to sell, because after so many years, I've become fond of a different base. The base I'm discussing was my third Roscoe so I do appreciate them

Some gorgeous basses there, more walnut tops than I remember seeing Keith and co. do. Sweet!
Am hoping that you can find some peace and forgiveness for KR, too. Your grievances are valid. You waited an extended time (April 2021 to October 2023?) to receive your bass, no doubt. KR's communication was lacking, for sure. Then, having to spend $100 with a tech after delivery to sort out pot issues adds even more frustration. It's a lot to overcome, even though you've stated some complimentary attributes of the finished bass.
I am grateful for you sharing your build experience and perspective in the Roscoe Club thread. Good luck with your sale, too, if that's what you decide.

I remember a few of those but many must have been in my pre Roscoe days.

This is tempting. Looks like a nice well cared for SKB?. Add says Century but that isn't right. Pretty sure it's a gloss not satin finish as well. Older bass - 3 bolt neck. Nice woods.

You're right on all counts. SKB, gloss, nice woods. Didn't even notice the 3-bolt neck, as I was too busy admiring the wedge construction. Beautiful bass

Oh oh. It would "match" my fretted Century 5, hard choice. I really only NEED 4 strings. The 4 is "nicer" but with 5 you have 4.
Well, I got an email from Roscoe about #5004. Here's what he had to say:
This is an LG-3004 Custom, 25-40 years old
Quilted Maple top with an Antique Yellow full gloss finish.
The body is probably Mahogany. The neck is Maple/Purpleheart/Maple. Not sure
about the fingerboard, Rosewood or Cocobola.
The inlays are mother of Pearl, Oval.
This was surprising to me because I used to have #4699 and it was made in 2005, but I guess the serial numbers aren't necessarily consecutive. That being said, this is much older than I was expecting and I wanted to know if there's any maintenance or repair concerns from these older Roscoes, something that he "figured out" in the past 25 years. Any flaws in the design, I guess I should say. Anyone compared older to newer models? Anything I should be on the lookout for?
