Roscoe Club

I am not a fan of the wear being visible at all. I will baby it and do the maintenance. My Roscoes are tools but they were also investments of my hard earned money. Call me silly but I like my stuff to look nice for a long time. ;)

My handmade PRS is over 35 years old - and my twin Roscoe's are now 15 years old - and it is hard to believe by looking at them how many countless hours I have played them. Like armybass I keep all my instruments in uber-pristine condition - including my Roscoe's - and they all look like they just rolled off the assembly line. I won't even tune any of my basses without my polishing cloth in my left hand - I never touch the tuners except with the cloth - to make sure sweat and finger cheese don't get on the tuners and begin to pit the chrome. I was in an MP unit the the army and wonder if the army thing has something to do with this somewhat unusual obsession?

Part of it is that I am a non-apolegetc pick player. My right hand floats constantly between the pickups and I move it slowly back and forth as I play which creates for me a natural "phase shift" that I am really infatuated with. Not sure if you can produce this with your fingers or not, but I think the pick "definition" might be key and can make it pretty pronounced. I guess the 2" dulcimer picks I have used for years have locked me in - I know exactly where the tip is - I never scratch the surface of the bass and I play VERY hard. I don't "anchor" so I don't settle in long enough to mar or effect the finish.

Also, for the rockers who may consider me to be a prog-rockin' one trick pony with Happy the Man - there are now tracks posted with my post-Happy the Man rock band "Vision". The first eight tracks on the juke box were produced by Eddie (Hendrix/Zeppelin) Kramer, and they have never been heard anywhere until now. For all the usual reasons the band was never signed. Tracks are here for the Eddie Kramer fans:

Anyways, the point is armybass - it's probably a lonely life on here for us - but I am totally with ya!

Hey Roscoe dudes,

I've got my Century Standard 5 listed over in the classifieds. I know one or tow of you have commented but I thought I'd chime in here and let you know I'm a motivated seller. Check it out and let's talk if there is any interest. Super nice bass but life has it's ups and downs if you get my drift.

Little update:

I finally got my lost "child" back!
Of course, for the "few" here that knows me well, I couldn't avoid few mods!!!
Mainly a new angle in the neck/body joint (to get rid of the wood shim under the bridge and get the strings closer to the body), shorter tuning machines and slanted towards the back (easier to reach for tuning) and luminlay side dots (for problematic dark stages)….. oh, and a new control layout (no pic for now)

Reality Check Request:

Yo Gard - your name came up in another thread and I doubt you'd have just read it from the title alone...
Donno why someone else didn't come here to ask - but I will...

http://www.talkbass.com/threads/is-this-real-or-just-well-photoshopped-3-string-bass.1077049/

So for authentication - is/was there ever such a thing as a 3-string Roscoe ?
A ballaRoscoe? A Roscoelaika?

Just popped in over there to give the thumbs up on it - it's real. ;)

nice collection ya got there. how do you like the Aguilar DCBs compared to the Barts in the others? how's the clarity and how would you compare them to say, EMGDCs?

I love them. I love the Barts but the Aguilar's are different. Where the Barts are warm and buttery, the Aguilar DCB's are brilliant and rich. But the Aguilar loaded bass is also mahogany so it is not a really fair comparison. I think they are much more organic than the EMG's like the Barts but maybe more aggressive than the Barts.
