I’ve just gotten my first Roscoe with the Bart/Bart combo. My others have been Nordy J or Aggie PJ setups. I’m not sure if I’ll stick the barts, what are some soapbars that other owners are liking? I don’t hate the barts but I feel like when I rotate the basses the tone/output difference and maybe being lo-z makes me have to retweak eq and pedals.
Just play the Bart bass all the time…problem solved
With the Roscoe Bart/Bart set-up, there is a trim pot on the control cavity cover you can use to attenuate the output of the bass to help match your others.
Some other soapbars I like are Aggie DCBs, Nordy Dual Coils (splittable), and Nordy Zen Blades (splittable).
Also, after checking the internal gain adjustment, maybe try changing just the preamp out first before going total swappage.
I really like the John East Uni-Pre (has so much tweakability), as well as Nordstand (whichever 3-band).
Kent Armstrong makes some cool pickups as well - check out the Claymore's.

The East, Pope or Nord preamps offer a more open tone and sound great with the Roscoe Barts.

My latest Pope preamp has Trickfish and Pope Flex Core on the box.
Does Trickfish make a preamp aside from the Pope Flex Core?
Have you found that just changing the preamp can improve tone without changing out the barts? Has anyone ran the Barts passive?
Improve is personal. Changing the preamp will definitely change the sound. An Aguilar preamp will make the bass sound more aggressive. The BART pre makes it sound more compressed and a bit darker. The other preamps mentioned will be less compressed, a bit more open top end, and will have a more open tone overall

Hi all! I currently have a Nordie pre in my Roscoe and am considering trying out Nordstrand Zen Blades in there. Does anyone know if our Roscoes come with copper shielded pickup cavities? Also, does anyone know if it’s an easy swap? Thanks and all the best!
All three of the Roscoe’s I have had use the conductive paint for the pickup cavity grounding instead of the adhesive copper foil.
No experience with them. Sounds like @emjazz would be a great guy to talk to about the Zen blades. You could also contact Nordstand. They could tell you if the blades line up properly with the standard Roscoe 18mm-18.3mm spacing (or direct you to the model that they sell that works on a Roscoe).
On the shielding, I’ve never had shielding related issues with my Roscoe’s (with the standard black sheilding paint that they use). Not sure if you’d notice any improvements adding copper to the pickup cavities. It’s an easy job to perform though.
The bladed pickups that Nordstrand makes do not have to align with the strings. The blades are continuous and simply have breaks to increase the integrity of the covers. They should work with Roscoes, however you may have to drill a new hole for one of the pickup screws, depending on what pickups you currently have in your Roscoe.
Thanks for the info. I have the Bart quad coils made to Roscoe spec. They have 3 screw holes each.
