I like flexible-feeling strings too and especially on a 35” scale bass where the tension is greater. My favourites strings are Sadowsky Blue Label stainless steel but I’ll keep Dunlop in mind.

Check out the new Bartolini 2 J Squared pickups. They come in a soap bar case and it’s like have 4 Jazz pick ups in a bass. They can be run series, parallel or single coil (coil tap).
I bet that they’d sound great in a Roscoe.

I've got them in one of my basses, and while I haven't been able to gig it out yet due to my shoulder surgery, they sounded great in my music room. They're wired series with a coil tap switch for the bridge pickup.

This came through the house yesterday. I helped an out of state friend make the purchase (seller was local). Not sure that I've ever seen a nicer quilt top!
I inspected it for him, and it was dead mint! I sure wish that I could have played it but my shoulder and arm are still in a sling. Hopefully in a couple weeks I can lightly play sitting down.

Not a gloss finish, it was my Century Standard from about 13 years ago, and I put that quilt against almost any. Imagine if it were a gloss finish instead of oil?

I picked up a new to me FBass BN5 and love the tone. I know it’s basically a jazz bass, but does anyone have any recommendations for pickups that will give me a similar tone on my Roscoe? I currently have a Nordstrand preamp with the quadcoil Barts. Possibly Nordstrand Zen Blades? Or Big Blades? Any thoughts or recommendations are much appreciated.
Hey Justin. Fbass BN5 basses have a very jazzy tone. Very unique since they manufacture their own pickups and preamp. I remember the pickups in my BN5 being extremely low output (maybe a combination of their preamp and/or pickups).
They only combination that I tried in a Roscoe that even remotely got in the ball park of a jazzy tone was a 3006 that I replaced the preamp with a Pope Flex Core preamp with a passive mode, passive tone control and coil taps for both pickups. Not the same but definitely in the ball park.

I love the Nordy Jazz Bars (single coils in a soapbar housing). You can get them in 60’s or 70’s wind with AlNiCo III or V pole pieces. Nordstrand will make them to your string spacing specs too.
Yeah, the Jazz bars are wonderful from Nordstrand. I would suggest the hum canceling version. Great pickups

Jazz bar depends on which you choose…you can get a 60s single, 70s single or the hum canceling. All great options. Big single is what it says…a wider, bigger J. The Big split is a hum canceling version…so a slightly more muted top end and a bit more tame
Jazz Bars 60s wind hum-canceling it is! I love the clarity, openness, and all around jazz awesomeness. This with the Nordy preamp seem like what I’m looking for. The other 2 just seem more compressed and humbucker-ish. Thanks for the help!
I can confirm that the big split was disappointing for me, because I was expecting more jazz pickups character. It was too broad sounding and lacked the upper mid bite that I love about single coil jazz pickups.
I have Nordy dual coils in my current Roscoe with 3-way coil taps. I spend most of my playing time in single coil mode for both pickups, but it is nice to have parallel and series options for each pickup.
