Roscoe Club

Yeah, mine is pre Plek but still only 5 years old so I think they had it down when they were building it. Last of the neck heel/pocket being done the way mine is, etc. Most everyone who plays it thinks it's one of the nicest playing/sounding basses they have tried - for a "modern" style bass. Playing mine may have even pushed at least one guy I know over the edge so to speak.

I had a bass-playing friend over last week and he was impressed by my SKB. He also played some of my other basses but he made a special mention of the SKB in a follow up email!

I had my Warmoth fretless neck pleked. There was some unevenness on the fingerboard and it was causing a sitar-like effect at the 12th fret (especially noticeable on the g string). The pleking fixed it!
My fretless SKB does that and has driven me to half-rounds which I don't like much.
Plain Diamondwood (so no figuring at risk) but the bass had 15+ years of heavy pro use before it came to me and the string tracks are evident.
Need to figure out how to manage a NC road trip...

I`m lucky that out of only two Plek machines in all of Canada one happens to be located in Ottawa!

For you guys with the Demeter pre...

I ready to order one for my SKB3005. I spoke to them a while back and they will configure it any way you like. What should I ask for?

The last 2 that I ordered I just went with the standard configuration (no mid sw) and combined the bass and treble controls via a single concentric pot (I ordered it from Best Bass Gear) when the pre arrived. You can order one and have it sent to Demeter so they can prewire the preamp using it but James will try to get you to wire the treble and mids to the concentric pot. That just confuses me though (since all my other basses combine the bass and treble with the concentric pot.) I can’t hear any difference.

Also, the concentric pot that I always order to combine the bass and treble controls is the Noble 50k EQ pot (from best bass gear.com). It cost $18.00.

I will warn you though, the last pre that I ordered from Demeter came with pots that the threaded shafts were only long enough to go through a metal control plate. James was apparently having trouble finding a source for the pots that could be mounted in basses with controls mounted through the body. He sent me a few of the older style pots but I had to rewire the preamp.
I’d make sure that you tell him what kind of bass it’s going in.

Also, I'm still waiting on my Roscoe BEQP-1 I ordered in December!! I was told at the tim I placed my order it would be shipped in 3 weeks!!

Roscoeheads,

I put my Century 5 in the classifieds. Not totally sure about selling it, but I don't think I'm bonding with it the way I had hoped. It's a killer instrument and looks and sounds amazing.

Bass arrived today.
For sure it’s not the “big lows, glassy highs, and a huge hole in the middle” that was my experience with MTD, Sadowsky, and Valenti “modern” basses I’ve had with similar electronics.
In fact it’s pretty “warm and woody.”
I need a lot more time with it and I’ll probably replace the tired DA XL170 that are on it with Dunlop Bright Nickel as they’re pretty much my home base.
I have rehearsals the next two nights and shows on Friday and Saturday. Hopefully and I can comfortable enough with what it does to take it to a show.
