@SteveC, barring any severe hardships, that flame maple fretless will never leave my possession. I'll have estate plans for it, too. If I ever need to sell, I'll look you up first.

Keith also told me that his son did a lot of the work on my bass. Keith said he’s doing a great job and loves working in the shop. He said his son even found a neck shaping issue on my neck that he wanted to correct (and Keith verified that it should be corrected). He ended up reshaping the profile a bit more of a flat “C” so it should be more comfortable and feel a bit faster. They also totally refinished the neck.
Really nice to know that there’s a competent “Roscoe” in line to carry on the Roscoe legacy!!!

Obviously, it plays out well.
The guys for this band liked it.
They said “ it’s got girth, even tho it never gets fat like your J basses. Great definition and articulation.”
That’s pretty accurate.

Welcome to the world of Roscoe! I predict that more you use the bass (in a gig situation) the more that you'll love it. Keep in mind that it's really easy to tweak the sound of a Roscoe by changing the pre and/or pickups.

Interesting!! I'm almost tempted to send Roscoe my Spanish Cedar fretless to have the metal lines replaced, although there are not issues with the aluminum at the present. But I'm going to wait to get an evaluation update from you or your 5JB.
I wonder what a set of Roscoe Bartolini pups would sound like in my SC.

At last nights rehearsa I was using a GK mbf500 and neo 212. A great rig, but not “fat.”
I spent some time with the MBF and a fearful 15/6/1; and a mesa D800+ and 115/210.
Either of those feel heftier, so I’ll probably use the first for Friday, which is a smaller room, and the other Saturday and see how those feel with the roscoe in terms of making it a tad heftier

Differences in sound? necks? playability? comfort? weight?

I’m still learning about the eq, but I am using it!

You'll possibly notice some nice tonal variation in your Roscoe's pickup blend, with additional seasoning from a pinch of extra bass and a smidge of lower mids from the Bart preamp. Might as well sprinkle some fresh batteries into the tonal recipe, keeping everything nice and juicy while you're cookin' with your band. . Enjoy!

The mid control is a push/pull pot with down being I believe 250HZ and up being 800HZ.
For the time I had my Roscoe 5, a bit of boost of mids @800HZ made it sound pretty "fat" to my ears.

IMO the Roscoe Bart's sound better in a Fretless (than the CB's). The Roscoe Bart's are more compressed sounding while the CB's have a more open sound. The more compressed tone (of the Roscoe Bart's) combined with the mwah and growl that you get with a fretless just creates magic!

Speaking of Roscoe fretless basses, Keith and Rik said that they only have enough Diamondwood to build about 5 more Roscoe fretless basses. I'm sure you guys remember Gard talking a year or so ago about the factory that manufactured the Diamondwood (and Zon Phenowood) burning down (with no plans to rebuild).
They're looking for alternative sources (maybe Phenolic but it has no variation or grain; just solid black) but they haven't decided on a finger board wood of choice yet. I can tell you having had several fretless basses with the Daimondwood/Phenowood and Ebony, there's a HUGE difference in the sound. And of course Ebony is really expensive now so the wood of choice (from a cost and sound standpoint) would probably be Pau Ferro.

So, if you want a Roscoe fretless built with Diamondwood, now's the time!

Ebony is awesome. That SKB I payed years was so sweet.
The Diamondwood on my two was also great. No worries about using rounds, which I did as I loved the growl and mwah I got from that set up.
End of an era at Roscoe. I'm sure they'll come up with something equally awesome.

I've been recovering from out-patient surgery for a little over a week now and finally felt good enough to pick up a Roscoe and record bit (sitting down of course). I wanted to hear how the mahogany Roscoe Century STD 5 sounded in a mix with re-installed Bart Hum-free JJ pickups so I thought that I'd work on a new R & B tune.
I really love the darker sound of the Bart's in this bass (Sorry Dave). Great finger style tone IMO.

They probably have something etched in the potting on the back but they're basically the Bart CB's in a P4 shell (2 wire shield pickup). I'm sure that Keith or Rik will be glad to look at the rear of he pickup and give you any additional info if you want to give them a call.

Are these custom made for Roscoe? I have other basses with stock Bart CB's and they have 4 wires. I have single/parallel/series switching.

Must be because I 'm having a Custom Devon finished right now that will have the CB Barts and has 4 wires for Coil tapping.
