Roscoe Club

View attachment 2914137 Bass arrived today.
For sure it’s not the “big lows, glassy highs, and a huge hole in the middle” that was my experience with MTD, Sadowsky, and Valenti “modern” basses I’ve had with similar electronics.
In fact it’s pretty “warm and woody.”
I need a lot more time with it and I’ll probably replace the tired DA XL170 that are on it with Dunlop Bright Nickel as they’re pretty much my home base.
I have rehearsals the next two nights and shows on Friday and Saturday. Hopefully and I can comfortable enough with what it does to take it to a show.

I’ve seen that in the past and tried to buy it. One of the nicest Standard plus Roscoes I’ve ever seen. I bet it does sound good. Enjoy brother.

My LG5 Custom just got back from Keith.

@Drkwdsman@yahoo
I guess my fretless 5 and your LG have been roommates at Roscoe for a few weeks. Keith finally got the Diamondwood FB milled off via the Plek so hopefully things will move along now.

Great looking LG by the way!

I’ve seen Roscoes with the Barts described as P basses on steroids- definitely warm and organic sounding! I have the Dunlop Super Bright nickels on my SKB and like that combination a lot. Give it some time and you’re likely to fall in love, imho.

Have we had this discussion before?:)
Yep. :D

As I really narrow in on (in all areas - amp, effects or lack of, etc.) what works for me, it's my Roscoe. I've had it for almost 6 years now. I am almost to the point where I don't look any more. I sometimes think a more "single coil" option for pickups might be nice, go back to my jazz bass days, but really, no one would notice a big difference from what I have now. I am also almost there with being a 5 string guy. I have my inexpensive 4 that I use from time to time for things as it was a gift from my wife and is a decent bass really.

I have my fretted needs covered so I do occasionally, even though I've sold 2 AMAZING fretless basses, think about having one again. Really, a fretted and fretless pair of Roscoe 5 string basses would be all I need. I have said it before and it's still true today.

If I could buy one of those back, I probably would. One has been modded very nicely, the other is still stock I believe.

I definitely think a Roscoe fretless would be the best addition you could add to your bass collection. I think any player that plays church gigs should have one. They sound awesome on the worship tunes.

Yep. There are many Sundays where I think man, this would be so good on a fretless...

My 2nd one (that I had built) is the first bass that comes up in Google when you search Roscoe fretless.

I think the first one (that I bought from Greg) is still out there in it's stock condition. Played about 10 times a year I think according to a conversation I had with the new owner. Tried to buy it back but he really likes it for those 10 times a year. Can't say that I blame him. That really tight flame maple top was as nice as any I have seen. Looked a little like a Fodera.

Both amazing basses.

I hear you Steve. I’ve certainly let some killer Roscoe’s get away.

This!!
However, my Zon Sonus fretless in church service is a cut above my Roscoe fretless!!! IJS

Yeah. That Zon totally kills!

I will say though, in an A/B test with the Roscoe ash JB fretless it was right there in the ballpark with the Zon in mwah. Something about ash/Diamondwood/JB p/u’s. They just work in a Roscoe fretless.

Keith also called today and said he would be shipping my fretless back tomorrow. It was the 2nd one that he worked with Plek to mill off the old finger board to replace it with a new one. Keith said it did an awesome job. He also did the fret lines with white epoxy and said that was definitely the way to go. He said you can’t feel the lines anywhere on finger board (I had an issue with buzzing at the aluminum lines).
