You also have a choice of getting a mostly wenge neck at the signature level, as opposed to mostly maple at the custom level.

I'm telling you Fred, all that Wenge in the neck just totally kills! I've never played a Roscoe with the wenge/wenge/wenge/wenge/wenge but I played a Custom Signature 3006 with the wenge/wenge/maple//wenge/wenge for 3-1/2 years (finally sold it when I left playing 6'ers) and I swore that if I could ever find a 3005 Signature with the wenge wedge neck I'd get it and never let it go. It took a while but I finally found one (actually it is wenge/bubinga/maple/bubinga/wenge or maybe wenge/cherry/maple/cherry/wenge) and it did not disappoint! Personally, I would never let them cover up the rear of the head stock with a laminate. The wenge/bubinga/maple/bubinga/wenge just looks too good to cover up!

I’ve had several basses with the Wenge neck and it is by far my favorite. It’s just so growly and warm. Never had to adjust any of the basses I had with those necks either.

That does look great. I still tegret not grabbing that orange century signature that was in the classifrds awhile ago. Was owned by kjung at one point. It was on gc’s used site awhile ago as well- wonder if it’s the bass or the player(s)?

I was lucky enough to end up with this beautiful aged white PJ5 (or JJ5). It is a beast...a bit heavier than all my other Roscoes, and it feels a bit wider at the nut. That being said, this has the tone that I was hoping for, and a ton of versatility to boot! Active/Passive PJ with full-time tone control and 2-band Sadowsky (boost only) pre fed by the Aggies...this is probably the first bass that I've really liked Aguilar pickups in. Looking forward to this weekend's gigs!

Congrats! I bet that one does sound good with the Sadowsky pre and Aggie p/u's.

From looking at that bass a person would think that Roscoe must have been making Jazz style basses for 40-50 years!

I have been dying to try an active Roscoe classic 5ver. I am trying to determine if I like my Lull P5, if not will probably sell/trade for a Classic 5ver.

The weight seems to be the biggest issue.

The relic job is great, to me. I like the wear points by the right forearm area and the belly cut area on the back. It seems like they almost used a light brown stain to emphasize the crackling.

The weight was the biggest issue for me going in. I usually rock my 8.4 lb. SKB on long gigs, so going up to nearly 10.5 lbs was a risk for me. So far, with a 4-inch-wide Italia strap, I haven't been phased. The biggest 'adjustment factor' for me is now the wider nut spacing, and generally wider fretboard. I haven't taken out the calipers to measure it yet, but I can post measurements at some point.

I suppose weight can be a big deal on a 4 hours set gig but since I typically play just an hour (+/-) set at a time, weight is probably one of the lesser factors I worry about.
Plus, It's been my experience that the best sounding Fender style basses that I've played have been the medium/heavier ones. Coincidence? Hummmmm, maybe, maybe not.

Very quiet this week on the Roscoe club thread. I guess that everyone is content.
I've been spending most of my spare time learning new material for a couple upcoming local jams. It's been a while since I've played classics or any of the newer secular tunes. After playing mostly acoustic based praise and worship it's been really fun working out more complex bass parts. I've been playing mostly my Roscoe STD JB 5 (with TI Flats) and a Fender Classic 60's Jazz (with EB Cobalt Flats) on the songs. They just seem to cop the vibe of the tunes. My favorite is still my Custom Signature SKB 3005 but I've been to lazy to change the strings (and honestly love the sound of that bass with nickle RW's).
Well, got to go practice playing "Bad Little Doggie"! Where do they get the name for these songs?

Somebody needs to buy a new or used Roscoe and wake up this thread!
