For me, I find the 3 Roscoe body shapes to have noticable differences when seated. The centuries balance the best for me, no strap, no neck dive (one is 9 lbs, the other is 10 lbs 2 oz). The SKB has the worst neck dive seated (8.5 lbs) and feels a bit precarious on my leg. The LG is in the middle for seated comfort (and is 9 lbs 6 oz).

Standing, they are all fantastic and with a 4-inch strap I never feel any neck dive. I gigged the SKB the most because I like the tone and weight, and now I've got that Roscoe PJ to gig with the country band.

Opinions on my PJ (which is also routed for JJ) - heavy, wider neck than the LG/SKB/Century, very good tone and low B. Thank goodness it has a full-time tone knob, because I find the Aggies, in every bass I've tried, to be on the aggressive side. I must prefer things more mellow in the high mid and high freqs for the styles I play and sound I have in my head. Comparing it to other high-end J basses is tough because I've never played a high-end 35" J5. High end 4s, yes; high end 34" 5ers, yes. I obviously don't still own those (Sadowsky, Valenti), but I like this one so far. I wish the neck matched the specs on the main Roscoe shapes, but I get why they didn't do that.

Right.every Roscoe 5 should have the neck profile we’ve grown to love. They can do what they want to the headstock and body to get the look they want but the profile of my Century Standard is why I can’t get myself to play any other bass.

Are you looking to sell it or insure it?

If you're selling, I'd give Reverb a shot. Price it reasonably, and then choose the "Accept Offers" option. That might get you a few offers so you can get a better feel for the value, though they may all be low ball offers... I'd start somewhere south of $3K, or maybe 5-10% more than you hope to get out of it. You could also do the same thing here on TB with the Classifieds section.

For insurance value, I'd look at more like $4K or $5K. That would be more in line with a replacement value at today's prices.

Thank you Sir ! Very much appreciate it . I think I may sell it , I have been saying that for a few years now and never do so we'll see . But.. I need to off a few , the herd is outta control . I will go to TB first and give the Roscoe heads first stab . My guestimate was much lower :oops: :D Also has OHSC in excellent cond . Pretty sure I have the build sheet as well but gotta look . I really had no idea so Thank you very much . Cheers

Don't take my gross estimate (somewhere less than $3K... which could be $1000-1500 LOL) too seriously. The bass is only worth what the next guy is willing to pay for it, right? And I have no idea how to find a guy who is anxious to try a 3-string... but I'm sure he's out there somewhere.

A bit late to the party (and Greg and the guys have given you great input) but with the awesome top (which really looks great with the maple board) I would think you could get $1300-1500. It's really nice looking, could be strung up in multiple tuning's (EAD, ADG, BEA, DGC), weighs in at a really low weight and would make a great conversation piece for a players collection.

Thanks man ! I agree , we are on the same page . Very much appreciate your help Fellas . I'll get off my lazy and get some sweet pics and say my farewells in a few days . I have about 4 top shelf babies to find homes for , this is the top of the top shelf :)

So this may find it’s wayback to me...

I ordered it as a “JJ” but it was modded after I sold it. The original Bart J pickups were replaced by Keith at the Roscoe factory. The replacement pickups are Roscoe Barts. The top switch is series/parallel for the top pickup, the bottom switch has same function for bottom pickup. The preamp is the original Bart 3-band.

The new setup is very versatile. Blend one pickup series with one parallel, add some EQ tweaks for tonal variety, and achieve sounds not available with the original Barts. Or stay with both pickups serial or parallel. Lots of options.

Maybe I’ll quit trying to convince myself I should have a passive 4 string P and just go back to my original plan from a few year ago of having a pair of Roscoe 5’s fretted and fretless and call it good.

You need to jump on that one Steve (assuming it's available). I'd love to hear the comparison of the SB's (in that position) verses the JJ's (which I have in both fretted and fretless). It probably phattens up the sound nicely.
