Roscoe Club

I’ve tried the Black Beauties and while they look really cool I felt they took away a little fro the Roscoe Tone but that was just me and my style maybe someone else sounds incredible with them .

Yeah. I tried them several years ago while Gard was still with Roscoe. Everyone was installing them back then. I remember liking how they sounded but thought that they were very tacking feeling and took them off.
I thought that after playing flats more these days, and regular rounds feeling tacking, maybe they would feel better to me now.
Sounds like insanity doesn’t it? Nothing has really changed but expecting different results!:D

To be fair, it sounds like what you’re looking for in a string may have changed. I had exclusively used stainless steel roundwounds since I started playing many years ago (sadly, just because you’ve been doing something a long time doesn’t mean you’re good at it ;)), but when I had my Genzler rig, the mids were a bit lacking with steels, so I switched to nickels, and now steels just don’t do it for me. So I can empathize.

I used to use DR HiBeams for a long time. Maybe they worked at the time on those basses, but I never liked them on my Roscoes. I went back to the "stock" nickel strings and it sounds like a Roscoe again... to me. I mean there must be a reason that Keith uses D'Addario nickel rounds, right?

Daddario NYXL or Roscoe Daddario XL is all I use on them now

Two Roscoe bass family. One with Flats and the other with Nickel RW.

Both have the slanted soaps. I do t see Keith doing this as much as he used to. I think it looks bad ass especially in a LG but I’ve never owned one with them. I’m sure it’s been discussed a thousand times over in this club so I won’t ask about the tonal differences between them and the straight ones I do want to know if they are slightly uncomfortable to play if you are used to resting your thumb on the pickup. Cheers! Those look awesome

I never felt awkward with right hand technique playing with slanted soaps, for a single anecdotal response. Maybe some people would.

As I'm sitting here, if I'm not typing on my phone, my thumb print sort of faces at a 90 degree angle toward my fingerprints (not like the 180 degree opposed finger prints like when we play on straight pickups). So...I guess the slanted pickups allow my thumb to be closer to a resting position than do the straight pickups. Ymmv.

Since I learned to play using the floating thumb technique, I don’t notice any differences, except for the tiny waist that causes the bass’s face/top to open up more toward me when sitting while playing, with the LP’s to the other basses I have with respect to their pickup orientations.
It Is My Opinion- I could imagine that would be some what of an issue, if I was in the habit of anchoring my thumb on the pickup.

But I didn’t always play using the floating thumb technique and, thinking as far back as I can about that, I can’t recall why I wanted/needed to learn that. It could very well have been because of the first LP I owned with the slanted pups! One never knows!! YMMV

There is. They are the least expensive string out the purchased in bulk!:D

Seriously! It’s true!
But I like them too Steve!

The bulk orders must follow a different cheaper process because the packaged sets have the different colored balls on the ends, from what I can tell, the bulk strings don’t. Just My Observation.

First thing I noticed even before I opened the box... this bass is light! Haven't weighed it but it's much under 9lbs. Looks better than I expected and sounds just as good. I haven't had a chance to give it a good workout yet but I really like the single coil mode. Definitely not a jazz tone but a bit more open with enhanced highs but less mids. Of course it still has the classic Roscoe tone in dual mode.
Thought I'd throw this one in here, too...

Got it a couple months back. Worked out a deal with Patrick, really great guy. That black is so sexy (can I say that?). Bonus 5 piece neck! Been playing it constantly since I got it and confirmed that the LG body is definitely my favorite. Not really a negative, but I'm not really a fan of the Bart passive tone control. It doesn't really do much in passive mode. With these 2 purchases, unless my Lotto number comes up, I set with basses for quite a while!

Beautiful Bernard!
I love the book matched ash top. It looks so classy!

I solved that issue by having flats my Classic P and nickel rounds on the 5's.

If I were you, I'd keep it as-is. Nickel on the Roscoe, flats on the P. Play the Roscoe at home, bring both to the jam and switch when you want to. There's no rule that you have to play the Roscoe every minute of the jam. The only rule is that you know in your heart (and proclaim out loud) that the Roscoe clearly and always will be the better bass! ;)

That’s kind of what I’ve been leaning on doing (which is the way it’s been the last couple months) but for grins I installed the Chrome flats on the Roscoe and I’m going to see how they sound on the Roscoe though the new Mesa TT-800 SW 210 rig.

Well we jammed today and the jury is out. The Chromes flats sounded good on the Roscoe but it sounded way to similar to my Fender Elite with flats.
The DR Black Beauties arrive tomorrow and I’ll give them a try. If they are to bright (or feel to tacky) then I’ll just revert back to my long time standard and install a set of OEM D’Addario RW
nickels.
Thanks for tolerating my stupid seasonal string posts!:)

Nice!
I had a relic’d Fender and installed a new top load bridge on it. It was quite easy doing a relic job on the new bridge by putting muriatic acid in a plastic container, setting the bridge on spacers above the acid and closing the lid over night. It worked really well.
I missed this - thanks. Do you have any pics of how it turned out? Might be worth a shot. I first have to figure out if the preamp I have in there is removable from the plate. Most are, but I put a John East after I found out the preamp was bad and it seems like it's adhered to the plate.
Anyway, I forgot to follow-up with you on the preamp issue a while back. The OPB-1 had a bad connection at the box and would cut it and out. After discussions with Keith and troubleshooting I could tell (and he verified) there was something fishy inside when I got it second hand. A few things didn't add up. So I just replaced it. Could have been a faulty box but he didn't seem to think Augilar would warranty it and as 2nd owner (although it was only a couple months old when I got it) I wasn't going to push it.

I don't have a pic of the bridge but I also did the bridge cover. Zoom in on the bridge cover and you can see it fairly well. The longer that you leave it in the container with the muriatic acid the more relic'd it'll look.
Sorry but I don't have a pic of the bridge cover only.

Curious to know how they new Roscoe (and your older one) compares to your various Pedulla basses.
