Roscoe Club

Finally put money down to get Keith to build me my 5JJ bass I've been wanting for years. It will have Waterfall Bubinga over Ash body. Will have Maple Wenge Maple neck with Wenge Fretboard and matching Bubinga Inlay. I'm having Nordstrand NJ5 pickup and Nordstrand Preamp with VTC control. Will be from the same Block of wood this one is from. Excited to have a JJ bass coming. View attachment 4234809 View attachment 4234810
Are you going with a custom or one of your "custom standard pluses"? I'm tossing the idea around for another, possibly a standard plus with a few more options.

I’m curious now. What measurements are you guys getting at the 12th that you consider “low” action. I know a lot is relative and preference but would like a number to reference.

I know lots of luthiers set and provide measurements based on the 12th fret but I go by measurements at the 24th fret (or last fret). On my setups I try to get .06 on the G string (bottom of string to top of 24th fret) and usually graduate upwards to .09 for the B at the 24th fret. Same for my Fenders except 21st fret (last fret). And I adjust the truss rod for minimal relief.

This config would have been my second choice but..
Mine is :
SKB 5 Signature.
Gloss finish.
Waterfall Bubinga. with more heartwood than sapwood.
Ash body (stained blood red maybe)
19MM string spacing (depending on the neck width at the nut).
Nordy 3B-5A pre.
Bart quad coils.
Ebony + bubinga inlay fretboard.
Wenge/maple/wenge/maple/wenge neck.
Black hardware.
Getting the scraps for knobs and tuner keys.

Perhaps we should duel when they get done?

Now that’s some killer specs!
All that wenge in that neck coupled wit Bart quad coils and Nord preamp!
I have that in my Signature and it kills!

This sounds killer. Except I'd go for the standard string spacing but I could get over that. :D

Like @Joe BassPlayer said, bart quad coils and Nordy and all that Wenge in the neck. MMmmmm!!!

Love the idea of the stained blood red body. One of my favorite Roscoes had that (cedar body though) and it was gorgeous.

Had a chance to look at and talk about a bunch of those fancy pieces of wood when I was there last month. The whole time I was thinking, “I wonder how long before some of this is in the hands of TB members?” About two weeks is, of course, the correct answer :roflmao: I still haven’t finished writing up my experience there, hope to post it up soon.

There are rows of this stuff in the shop. Absolutely fascinating!

I don't know that I would like a 19mm 5 string, but my 19mm Classic P is just fine. I love playing that bass. I wish it worked for all my gigs. But then I wouldn't have a use for my 2 5's so...
I think a lot of people would not be sympathetic to your argument that a p bass doesn’t work on all gigs. ;)

But all us TB’ers would be sympathetic about the need for more instruments :D
