On my 3006 with Bartolini preamp I almost always have the 250/800Hz mid switch set (pulled out) to the 800Hz position. Even though I rarely move the pot itself off the detent. When a solo opportunity presents itself, a bit of mid-boost is usually all it takes.

Same for my PJ 3005, though I give it a *little* boost.

On my fretless, that's where the growl lives. Do I want more growl? Clockwise! Less growl? As the Brits would say- Anti-clockwise!

I finally am getting over Covid and getting back into playing and I got to spend some time today with my SKB 3006 Custom Myrtle beauty. The bass plays great but I hadn’t yet connected with the bass sonically. I learned that I needed to be a bit more liberal with my use of the preamp than I’m used to and also that the higher mids make the bass speak the way I’m wanting instead of the lower mids which I usually bump. Now I just need to start taking it to gigs and rehearsals ect.
I also need good pics of it.

Is the body myrtle too Scott?
Myrtle burl bodies always sounded a lot like maple to my ears.

As fate would have it I ended up with 2 Roscoes with bodies out of my favorite 2 woods (mahogany and ash).
Oddly though I originally would have preferred that the PJ be ash and the Signature with SB’s be mahogany (but they’re just the opposite). But they sound great as is. I guess sometimes the sum of the parts over rule what we think we know!

That was a bass I commissioned and a couple weeks into it our company got purchased and rumors of shutting down. I sold the build to a buddy and and he kept it for a while. That bass was spec’d really good and had great woods.
