Does anybody have overlayed outlines of the LG vs SKB. Hard to tell what is different about the shape vs how the slanted pickups make it look different.

Would also like to see the pickup placement of SKB and LG overlayed.

By far my favorite Roscoe Ever! I want that bass so bad I have thought about clubbing him over the head and taking it, but alas he is my friend.

One of the old Roscoe's that I had was very similar, except it had a one piece myrtlewood body....very similar to maple. It had the Roscoe Barts and a Demeter pre. It killed. Got comments on that bass's sound all the time.

I'm pretty sure the SKB body is a little bigger over all. A little wider at the bottom, and the horn extends a tad bit more. The LG is the smallest body. My LG has straight pickups here's a pic.

That is a sweet looking bass. What is the tone like with a spalted purpleheart fingerboard - bright like maple or closer to rosewood?

I went with the century myself. I must say the only Thing I'm nervous about is going from a mahogony body to swamp ash. Swamp ash is much brighter than I'm used to and I'm worried I won't get that fat full warm sound that I've always loved. I just really think a mahogany body with cocobolo top and a wenge fingerboard would have been too dull with no growl.

My SKB3005 has a mahogany body with maple top and wenge fingerboard (+ Roscoe Barts/Aggie OBP-3). The tone is a bit dark but sits well in a mix and growls for days with a nice singing presence to the mids. Swamp ash body was brought up in my initial build discussion and is supposed to work quite well with the wenge board. Swamp ash has plenty of booty and wenge seems to subdue that top end brightness. I wouldn't hesitate to try it.

In my opinion it tends to be on the bright side, but not as bright as maple. I think the solid maple body with purpleheart fingerboard really evens out the Bart Classics and Aguilar preamp. The bass just sounds balanced, the lows and highs really sound tight and you can dial in some nice growl with the Aggie preamp.

I have one of the old Century Standards, it was built to Century specs with the exception of a carved top. The top is as thick as a Century/Century Sig. This bass has the Spanish Cedar body, Purpleheart Fingerboard, Maple top with Roscoe Barts and Aguilar 3 band preamp. It is slightly dark and as plenty of growl which cuts through a mix nicely. I pretty much run the EQ flat with the Bass at 1 o'clock. I can pan halfway to the neck pickup and get an awesome "P" bass slap and finger tone.

My Century Signature is Spanish Cedar, Maple top, Cocobolo fingerboard, Roscoe Barts with Demeter Preamp. The Demeter preamp really opens the compressed tone of the Roscoe Barts, it is very articulate and has very tight lows and smooth highs, scooped in the mids but has enough mid control to make it cut if needed. When you hear the term piano clear/clean, that is this bass.

I prefer the way the Century hangs and it has to do with the extended upper horn. If the LG started coming with the extended upper horn, well IMO it would be the best bass every built.

Can you not request a custom build with that one feature modified?

I don't know if they'd do a modification like that or not. Seems like a fairly major modification. WOuld the LG look a little weird with a longer upper horn like that? It's only an inch or so but it might look funny?

Actually when I had mine I made an mock up extension out of paper and tape to see what it would look like and it looked fine. I went to the 12th fret. I am not sure if I took a picture of it or not but I will look.

The first one would probably be finished off by hand then from then on you would use it as the template on the Copy Carver or have someone put the dimensions into CAD which could be downloaded into a CNC Machine.

It isn't nearly as simple as you might think. Every single aspect of the instrument needs to be adjusted to accommodate the differences, and it is a lot more effort than you would think. We just don't do custom bodies, for this reason.

It really is nasty here today, but tomorrow it will be pushing up around 60...so, maybe then?

Hot Damn! First Roscoe Gig Report! Took my Century 5 JJ (thanks Greg) to my gig last night. Paired it with my Markbass F500 and two new Aquilar GS112's (thanks again Greg ) and man oh man.... I was in tonal Nirvana all night man. I set the F500 totally flat, set the bass totally flat and needed no adjustments at all... It was huge, warm, articulate, nuanced and you could hear ME! Nothing about the bass or the rig held me back, playing the bass was far more effortless than any other bass I have had my hands on that I can remember. It is like when you finally move from the $800 plywood upright to a $5000 carved bass..... you can see the light bulb appear above your head and you just get it. A bass player friend was in the house and came up to me on the break and said from the back of the room he could hear me crystal clear and said my tone and sound was very articulate across the entire
spectrum. My drummer turned to me half way through the first said and said man I love that bass. needless to say.... I could not be happier. Thanks to everyone here for there input and info... thanks in particular to Gard who steered my in the right direction, Jon Packard who helped me zero in on what I was looking for and of course Greg for making it happen!
