Well Jon is the reason I spent 10 years of my life in the US Army band which led to every other aspect of my life now and he was the one who tried to talk me down from my ascension to the throne of bass whoredom that I have been so diligently seeking. He told me a year or so ago that I should get a few Roscoes and my constant need for new basses would be quelled.

Gard is a homeboy.... we are from the same Parish (county) in Louisiana, are about the same age and I have been dealing with him professionally for at least 15 years. Never led me astray on purchases and I still use much of the gear that hea has advised me on.

Greg is a new friend and only made sense that I deal with him because I am fortunate enough to live in VA where Rocket Music is and they appear to be one of the finest Roscoe dealers with their finger on the pulse of all things Roscoe as well as a bass players dream shop.

I have known Greg (Gard, Jon, et all) for a couple years now. Greg sold me my first Roscoe - and my 2nd, and another. I don't live anywhere near Rocket Music, but he is my guy. Heat to work with and "gets" it. I'm glad I don't live any closer - I'd be in big trouble.

More Roscoe Praise!

There is a church in Durham which DataBass5 and I fill in on bass occasionally. We use in-ear and my ear buds are the cheap $100 M-Audio IE-10s so I never get a great tone in my ears. I opted for my Century Standard 4, Roscoe/Barts and Aguilar preamp. I put the bass and mid at 1 o'clock, treble 12 o'clock and played the set.

Afterward the sound guy came and said how much he loves the tone of Roscoe basses. He had the EQ set flat on the board because the signal I was sending didn't need any tweaking.

They did, actually. I guess I did a little growing up along the way. (Shhh! Don't tell anyone!)

Still undecided about sending my 6 in to get the frets dressed. There are a few that are fairly sharp. It was worse but seems to have gotten a little better as the weather gets warmer and more humid. Gard thought it may be best to do it now when they are causing a problem as it will probably happen again next winter. Last week I was ready to send it to Keith, but now I wonder if I should wait and see if it gets any better.

It won't. It's the dryness of the midwest winter. You really want to find someone kind of local. If you can't find someone up there, I've got a guy in Omaha that's done all of mine very reasonably.

I'll have to do some asking around. I have never had any work like that done "locally" on any of my basses. Maybe Ryan knows someone.

If you guys just bite the bullet and get it done one time, it'll never give you trouble again....food for thought.

And frankly, while we're happy to do the job for you, it's a local repair guy level job, in all honesty. Heck, I do my own most of the time, and I'm definitely not a "good repair guy", just a competent for my needs setup guy.

I'm fine tweaking my truss rod, setting the bridge height and intonation, that kind of stuff. I do it all the time. My basses are very well in tune. I'm just a little nervous about taking a file to my bass.
