S/D-85: Tasty clippings from Corey's Box

In my opinion, the Wizard and Cthulhu are must buy pedals. The Wizard is super versatile for bass and guitar and the Cthulhu isn't very versatile, but it's one of the best versions of its concept I've ever played for both bass and guitar as well. I've had mine for a while and they're both my go to pedals most of the time now.
Eh, I've already forgotten them. I just improved some stuff for a minute before I started, worked up some simple drum tracks for them and did it. I had to go back and listen to them the second day, when picking up the last two bass pedal demos. I just treated it like RAM, dumped as soon as I didn't need them anymore.
As far as the type of riffs. It was difficult, because I have a certain preference for what I want to hear musically, but I also want to show off the pedal as efficiently as possible (within a certain context). So I tried to work up something that would showcase open B and work through at least a whole octave. With the picking stuff I wanted to show off what really worked with that heavy attack and somewhat faster riffing, because some pedals really excel at one and suck at the other or just fart out. With the guitar demos, I wanted to show off chords, single notes, and upper strings, so you could get a sense of the heaviness and the clarity of each pedal. It was kind of a tough choice to make, but I had to make it quickly because I had 21 clips to record over the weekend lol. I didn't get a sense from any of the pedals that sustain was a problem.
I could entertain the possibility of requests for really specific short demo clips. If I have time before I have to send the box out to the next person. I was planning on trying to get some stacking demos with guitar, specifically the Volt Thrower into the Wizard and the Cthulhu (separately). So if anyone has a really specific settings, instrument or type of riff request...couldn't hurt to throw it out.

I actually liked the ODB (4th setting) the best on the clips. However that sound is very similar to my tone I'm using currently so that actually makes sense I would be the most into it.
Wizard and Volt thrower sound awesome, I actually liked those best with the fingerstyle clips.
ODB and DA120 sounded better with the pick settings (IMO)
Cthulhu sounds awesome, obviously more "1-trick" than the others but it's a really awesome trick.

Lol the Stoner/Doom gang in TB has a reputation now. I think instead of jumping to the defense of other loud players, we should raid the Amps forum and tell everyone who's asking whether they should get a PF500 or Markbass that really an SVT and 2 8x10's would get the job done. Then we can get into our own arguments about 8x10 vs. 2x15, and which better handles epic fuzz, and totally derail whatever useless question the OPs were asking.

Also, I think Laz nailed it with his take on the dog situation. A lot of people just need to understand better how dogs communicate and function socially.

I just sold off my Sitori Sonics Bass Fuzz because while it worked great on bass it was only ok on guitar, so The Cthulhu is calling me...
perfect timing for those clips, i've been rethinking some of my board as of late.. although honestly i think sometimes you need a 'normal bass' and 'rickenbacker' clip just like you do a 'fingerstyle' and 'pick' one in order to get a good idea of what it would sound like. ha.

Lol I was thinking the same thing "Man I wish I could hear these clips with a Ric" just because the Ric is has the most unique baked-in tone of any bass I've heard. Stingray would be another one, although I dont think many of us rock those. Beggars cant be choosers though and Corey you did a great job! A true service to fuzzy musicians everywhere. I was surprised to like the DA120 tones more than the rest.. maybe I need to grab either that or the Cthulu so me and Laz can do another PGH fuzz shootout.
Band practice later tonight... we settled on the name Island of Giants, being that myself and the guitar player are both 6 feet+, we aim for a gigantic sound, and our rigs are quickly starting to resemble Stonehenge. I want our live setup to resemble Weedeater, with drums front and center, massive rigs in the back, and me and guitarist on either end. We'll each have 2 rigs by the time we start playing live so each side of the stage will have full bass and guitar support with no PA. My biggest gripe with local shows is how you have to choose whether you want to focus on bass or guitar based on where you stand in the room... we're trying to mitigate that through over-rigging ourselves.
For those who have been following my Hartke woes: its been i the shop for 2 weeks now, the tech just called me and says its not my imagination, he IS seeing some DC leakage when the levels are turned up. He struggled at first because at low volume it works swimmingly, but at high levels the left power section overheats and sends wonky voltages and DC. So hopefully once its released back to me I can run it into the 2x15 and not blow any more drivers, and be able to run the Acoustic 370 and 18+12+6 rig on one side, Hartke + 2x15 on the other. Guitarist is running his Laney AOR into an Avatar 2x12, and once his Hovercraft gets fixed that will go to another 4x12. Our vocals are finally starting to come together, and I really just can't f***ing wait until we are able to play out. F*ck!
Haven't played since our CD release show in October, but we have 3 shows in 3 weeks coming up. We've also written close to 4 new songs. Itching to play out.
I don't play a Stingray but my bass's tone is similar to one with the bridge humbucker solo'd like I play it.
My fav is definitely the DA120, love the sputteriness on bass and on guitar its dopesmoker in a box. Can't wait for the preorder for it.
LOL, just saw that episode last night, can I just dive from that spot there! Oh and when he shows off the vacation trailer in Wales, when he couldn't set up the fold-out bed, well you get the idea anyway, priceless!
the wizard fuzz sounds like it'll give the bluebeard a run for its money in the bassy muffy doom circuit. rad. laz don't you have both? how would you compare?
They don't really compare. The WF can come pretty close to copping the BB tone, and then does 1000 other things. WF is the only pedal I've really been using lately for dirt.
The only thing I'd change about the WF is to give it the ability to store 3 presets like the Sansamp BDDI so I could use 3 different settings on the fly. That's not really a complaint, just the only way I could possibly like the pedal more.
