Those are pretty and I have never even heard of them. I'll check them out ASAP because I'm saving for a Ernie Ball Music Man.

Yes, this is one of the better kept secrets around...

Oh, from an earlier post, I have an active SUB-5 that totally rocks! Better looking and lighter than my old EBMM SR-5...

Yeah, I noticed the compensated nut, also - I'll post up on it once it arrives... It's got some still competition to break into the gigging rotation, though - it'll be standard tuned, which means it'll be replacing an '08 American Standard Jazz with a series/parallel switch - which is one of the best playing basses I've ever had the pleasure to play...

I'm probably going to put a hipshot on it, and use it for an alternate to the aforementioned Jazz - for E standard and Drop D stuff... This all started with the SR5 HH I bought this summer - now, I'm really digging EBMM basses...

Hey george, did you see the hipshot detuner in the classifieds? I think he wanted $40 for it...

My main bass is a 2002 natural/maple Stingray (originally 2EQ, but now with a John East preamp, essentially a 2EQ plus a mid-sweep control). I play that all the time. I have a couple of "backups"... well, not exactly backups, they are distinct enough to warrant keeping them:

1) active OLP with Seymour Duncan SMB4A alnico pickup and 3-band preamp. Quilt veneer top and maple.
2) passive OLP with Seymour Duncan SMB4A alnico pickup, fitted with flatwounds (chromes). Black and maple.

The OLPs are nice, but the Stingray is different enough, and so are SUB basses. The SUB ia a much more similar instrument to the Stingray. Not a huge fan of rosewood fingerboards, but you have no choice with SUBs.

I have been searching for a white one for about a year... so when this beauty appeared on eBay last week, I could not let it pass. I put it on my watch list... and watched.

I hated watching a bid war between two clueless eBayers (why do people do that? it makes no sense in a fixed term auction!) but things calmed down a bit once the expected price for this kind of bass was near. Phew.

Auction was ending today at 11.05am.

Checked it at 10.50am... things hadn't moved much.

Make coffee, sit at computer, read some news... Make sure I am logged in.

11.03 ok, here we go... price gone up, two new bidders
Still within range, about £55 below the price I'm willing to pay.

No movement.

I type my maximum price, and watch the timer... under a minute.

I don't look at the current price now, just at the timer.

With 12 seconds to spare I put the mouse on the "bid now" button...
I am using a wireless mouse, and I remember how sometimes it just sudenly dies as the battery runs out, no previous warning. Ah! I have not replaced the batteries in ages, it must be tie soon... Please, no, not now...
10 seconds, press mouse button.
It works! :)

Screen refreshes, it's asking me to confirm bid... agh, I had forgotten about this!
Quickly press again... screen refreshes... well, it tries, but something happened... it's frozen. Only a few seconds, but it felt like an eternity!

Ah... dang... it looks like my efforts were not enough.

Oh, wait, but the winning bid is still £25 lower than my maximum, how is that possible? Did my bid not get in there?

Then I realise that I had inadvertently clicked once too much, and scrolled down a bit. As I scroll up I see the message indicating I could "pay now"... The bass is mine.

:hyper::bassist::hyper:

So, I love my SUB5 and... I just pulled the trigger on a white 4-string SUB!!!

Can't wait!!! :)

It came with the original aluminium pickguard, but I immediately replaced it, I had already ordered a white one for this bass.

Beautiful bass, sounds and feels great. Yum. :bassist:

The bad thing is... it was shipped in a gig bag, no extra protection.

So two tuners got bent: D and G strings. Now I need to find replacements. I contacted the seller, so hopefully he will take care of it...
Who thinks shipping a guitar in a gig bag is enough protection??? :eyebrow::rollno::mad:

The good news is that it is functional for now, so I can enjoy it already. But the tuners are badly bent and vibrate like mad when plucking a string.

Nice pickup on the white SUB, nach! Sorry about the tuners - Maybe you can pick up a Hipshot d-tuner, and then switch the E and D tuners around? Just a thought...

Yep i just looked you did get it on ebay , from the same guy i got my sub from and both our basses are in the mail now.

Small world when your a bass player

I've got a white one I picked up off another member a little while ago and absolutely love it. :bassist:

That is one of the nicest colours I've seen on a S.U.B., looks great with the pickguard too!

I do have an E tuner, from my Stingray. I installed a Hipshot D-tuner, so that one is sitting in a box. I can use that for the D. But I still need a G one.

In any case, I would hope the seller either pays for the replacements or gives me a partial refund, as it is his fault.

But I am not too worried either way. The bass is really nice, and the worse case scenario is that I pay a little extra for teh right tuners out of my own pocket. I will not cry about it, I love this bass :)
