Question: I found a NOS Musicman Sub 5 (Graphite in color) and the shop is wanting $750.00 for it and they said that they would throw in a gig bag,....is that price sound reasonable or is it priced too high?

Hmm that seems right in the ballpark for new. I remember buying mine in '03 and that with a gk back line 110 was close to $1100. It was a great value back then a USA musicman?! Boom!

I know that last year they had the bass for the same price and I didn't buy it I bought a NOS Peavey TL5 instead. I thought since they still had it that they might had come down just a little or at least throw in a hard case but no, they said they'd throw in a gig bag! I believe that I may look around alittle longer. Oh well..

So due purely to my own lack of desire and time to rebuild my graphite sub 5 fretted with TerribleLiar's seemingly brand new blue sub body, his trade deal with me is off and his end of the deal might be available again.

My apologies to him for getting his hopes up then squashing them like mosquitoes, but I love my bass as a player and tone machine and upon further consideration have concerns that a body swap with full setup required and of course the potential for neck pocket complexities will make this too much of a project.

I don't love the graphite color, but the blue isn't worth the effort for me.

Now if it was natural with spalted maple veneer I might pay for that swap!

LoL

Cheers

The SUB!!! Without a question!

I just got my wine red SUB today. My third one. I sold the SUB5 because I don't play 5 strings... now I have two SUBs and a Stingray.

I will check this weekend whether it's wired in series or parallel. I am thinking series, again, but the strings are very old, so hard to tell.
A previous owner removed the headstock sticker with the serial number... but it has the compensated nut, so I guess it's a 2005 or 2006.
Does anyone know when the compensated nut was used?

The colour is... unusual. I put a spare black pickguard I had and it does not look bad at all. I still think I will paint it though. Not sure yet whether bright orange or red.

I know it's subjective but does that SUB have that much more mojo than a ray 34/35?

Does it count if I ordered one through my local music store? I think 99% of us can't afford Sterlings, Stingrays, or Bongos in our lifetimes, so I figured the SUB is the best alternative. It even has the Musicman logo on it, but logos aren't much of a big deal for me. Although there are $600 Sterlings which are affordable.....

There's red and there's purple.

Which is it?

It's... like red wine.
I'll ask my girlfriend, she can probably describe it as a particular hue of a particular wine of a particular year :-D

I'd say it's more towards purple than towards red... maroonish kind of purple... dark beetroot...

With a maple fingerboard I might just leave it. But I think it looks too much like an old man's bass, an old man that smells. Mouldy.

Not sure what colour to spray it yet. Probably bright red. Maybe fiesta red.

This is it. I removed the pickguard at once though.
