Of course, you're right about it being fairly simple, and obviously it doesn't cost a lot to make. This type of bridge has been more or less standard for MusicMan basses since their inception, and it probably has a lot to do with the fact that it was designed by Leo Fender whose bridges for the Precision and Jazz basses were simpler still. On the other hand it does what it's supposed to, doesn't weigh a lot, and doesn't cause tuning or intonation problems. I rather like it myself, and I guess that MusicMan figures that there is no need to fix something that isn't really broken. Still, if it isn't your cup of tea it isn't, and there are no drop-in replacements on the market that I know of. But being a machinist, wouldn't it be possible to make something from scratch? If you ever do, come back and show us. I know I'd be interested.
