Sad day in the NHL :(

I think some people have a misconception about Florida fans and their teams.

South West Coast = Loyal fans who fill the stadiums even when their teams suck, which is mostly: because there is really nothing else to do.

South East Coast= Fans who don’t Bother attending games until their teams are actually in the position where they could win something, luckily the teams seem to win just enough to keep playing and on occasion accidentally win a World Series or such.
North of Lake Okeechobee is pretty much like the Real USA where people watch the game because they like the sport, you know “Normal Fans”.

I used to live about 15 minutes from the NCRC (the mac-Arena, the Rent-a-center). Anyway, I remember the local fans refering to Bure as "Pablo Bure". :rollno:

They did have many pretty good adult rec. leagues down there.
Plenty of Quebec-sters wintering over.

I was torn during the whole series. I wanted Calgary to win, but it is really great to see Dave Andreychuk get the cup. I saw him score his 500th goal when he was with NJ so I always kinda liked him.

As for the "goal" and the series. This is how I look at it. It is what it is. What happened happened, and nothing is going to change it. Was the puck over the line? Yeah, it was. Do bad calls happen? Yeah, they do. It's called life.

Bad Brains- How is it a sad day? The more deserving team won the cup.

I dont think anyone in the U.S.A. bitched all that much when the Blue Jays won the World Series. Well except for Philly, I know they just love Joe Carter there! :D

What a lot of people don't know though is that baseball was actually invented in Canada... I guess the USA just "popularized" it. And I think that goal went in. Actually, I'm probably just bitter because I lost a few bets. :(

10 years since a Can. team won the cup? I dont really see that as a big deal cause about 80% of the players on all the USA teams are Canadian.
It was a good serious i thought...Calgary just ran out of steam. Tampa earned it fair and square.
Anyone who is ticked off about Tampa winning...just be happy for the dozen or so Canadian players on that team that get their names engraved on the cup!

And as someone already said...hell of a better series than last years!
Congrats Tampa.

Now see, to me, that makes sense. Bure was playing in Miami...where Spanish is the 'official' language.

Somewhere else(Anaheim?)...(Igor) Larionov was called "Larry Onoff".

Sucks to be Canada cause its our national sport?

Well...2 points to be made here...

1. What do you expect when all our best players leave our country to play somewhere else(cant say im blaming them) For arguments sake..lets say a player is given the chance to play in Canada for 500 000$ Canadian dollars or go to the States and play for 3 000 000$? I think the choice becomes quite apparant. :) (But i dont blame them...like i said... :D)

2. The ratio of Canadian teams vs. USA teams...we only got 6. And on average lets say only 4 or 5 of them make the playoffs each year. They always end up playing eachother in the first round eliminating eachother. Give us the same amount or some more teams...and you would probally see more Canadian teams in the playoffs (maybe, maybe not...but the chances will be greater)
(it would be nice if Winnipeg gets one again...i know they were looking, and too bad they wont give one to Hamilton...they been begging for a team for about 11 years)

As for Lord Stanley belonging in Canada...i dunno...like i said in my previous post...im just glad to see Canadians continue to get their name on the cup...
The Oil is my fav team...and when they arent around...i usually cheer for just great hockey...not caring who wins...And i got my wish and im glad we had a great final! IMO

That game was a heartbreaker, but the Flames brought a lot of joy to the city. It was nice to see the team back into the playoffs. People were waving flags and wearing red just to support our team. It was an exciting season.

Tomorrow, I'm going to go downtown and party with the rest of the city, the Flames are still the Western Conference Champs after all. Thank you Flames for a great year!

There's still the World cup! :spit:

At that time there were ZERO Professional hockey teams in Minnesota.
The answer was Florida. At the time there were, perhaps, a dozen or more Professional teams in the 'Sunshine State'.
BTW, Professional = NHL, IHL, ECHL, & something they had called the Florida Sunshine League.
I don't know about you but I like seeing shorts & tube tops in the stands...plus the sheer T-shirts, ya know with the chill in the air & all. Hi-Beams City.

IIRC, Texas was #2.

I'm an Oiler fan but I was really cheering for Calgary in the final and I really felt bad for them when they lost. I just felt that the team deserved it because they had worked so hard, and the city deserved it because they haven't won a thing in 15 years. It also would have been interesting to see such a huge underdog win the whole thing.

That said, even though Tampa is in Florida and winning the Cup doesn't mean as much to them as it would have for Calgary, I'd rather they win it than a lot of other teams. The reality is that Tampa Bay is a young, talented, exciting team and hopefully this will prove to the league that you don't have spend $80 million or play ultra-defensive hockey in order to win. Also, as others have mentioned, Tampa Bay is mostly comprised of Canadian players. In fact, I can't think of a single American player on that team.

Had the 'goal' scored in game 6 counted, it would have been credited to Gelinas, giving him all four series winners. I also don't think it was kicked in, yet I still don't think they could have called it a goal. Firstly, nobody even noticed how close it was at the time and they kept right on playing. It would be kind of tough to stop the play 5 minutes later and say "oh yeah, 5 minutes ago that puck was in by an eighth of an inch so Calgary wins the Stanley Cup". Second, I'm not actually convinced it even was in. From one angle you can see white ice between the puck and the goal-line. If the puck was on the ice, then this would be enough to say it was a goal, but if it was in the air at all (which I believe it was) it could easily have created the illusion that the puck was in. In this case a different angle would have to confirm it and both the overhead and net-cam views were inconclusive. Tough break for Calgary to be sure, and it might have been in, but I think they made the right call.

I really do not understand this... really really dont... who the cares where team is from... and lets face it... canada in my books have won a cup every year... them and russians name a team who won and didnt have canadians or russians:] who scored 2 goals in last game... YAY who stopped everything:P screw this... americans loose... canadians loose russians win... bow down to us!

stupid nationalism... when will it die...

btw... isnt ESPN freaken sick... i hate those people... they ruined hockey for me... i am so sad i dont get any real chans this year... i just cant stand those idiots... they dont know jack about hockey...

all they did were those great stories and interviews

i mean 3 times i missed a goal because while game was going on they were interviewing someone WTHHHHFRLszmjvfsdlkvjadlvasc;

omg he didnt have electricity antil 60's and omg his daddy never played with him that why he turned to hockey... what a great story... great story this playoff is full of great stories GODVJKOAXCNDAFSLVMJVDSVDSFVSD

great playoffs but ESPN ruined everything... thanks idiots

OK, I find this really annoying...

So what if Florida won, if the won the games,, then the deserve the cup... No amount of nay-saying whining can change that. Furthermore, going off on a rant against the whole damn league,, JUST BECAUSE the Canadian team lost to a Florida is really pathetic.

To anyone that feels this way, I all I can say is, "You don't care about the NHL & frankly your team deserved to loose just because of this crappy attitude...

I live in Ohio, The BlueJackets have sucked every year in thier existance, but they're one of the highest drawing teams. So, I guess its completely out of the question to assume MY team is even ALLOWED to win the cup... We may as well just give up & bow down to any Canadian team, because they're the only teams in existence that "truly deserve" it...
