same strings 25 years

Cobalt flats won't give you the same longevity. There is space between the wraps that allows them to get corrosion inside the string much more easy than the average flat.
Indeed. In a day, they will go from clank to clunk and you're done.
I saw a video once of Flea messing around at some party at a Hard Rock Cafe and they pulled Duck Dunn's bass off the wall for him to play with, his comment after tuning and playing it was "that bass is actually amazing, those strings don't have any right to be as good as they are, considering they've been on there 50 years."
Sure I have my TI flats on my Fender P going on 17 years
and another bass 15 years
Looks like my barbacue grill i leave outside ..uncovered ..all year, but How do they sound? or do they? I do change strings alot just to experiment and try new stuff but that can be pricey. I know youre joking but do how you wanna do. I got flats on a coupla basses that have been on there for years but maybe not 25. Keep on keepin on and God bless you!
Funky as a diaper! They may sound acceptable to some, but I couldn't stand to play those. In my experience, older strings have lost low end, transient response and playability. The only strings that could probably hang in there for 10 years are TI Jazz Flats

Less barking, more wagging!
I, too, love my TI jazz flats; have 'em on 10 different basses, some for more than 20 years.
I have a set of Kamflon Performers on my Peavey Foundation FL that were put on in 1985, still sound great. I couldn't imagine how much those strings have been played as for a long time (20 + years) this was my only fretless bass.
Intonation issues and corrosion…buncha sissies! Leave ‘em on another 25 years. Closest I’ve got to that is 10.
A. Joe Osborn's Jazz had the same set of strings on it from when he got in 1959 or 1960 until the late '70s. Those strings recorded almost all of his classic studio work.
B. Herbie Flowers has a Jazz Bass with the same set of strings that he put on it when he got it in the early '60s. That's what you hear on "Walk On The Wild Side" in addition to a large part of Elton John's "Tumbleweed Connection" and "Madman Across The Water" albumsn(Dee Murray and Nigel Olsen only were allowed to p.ay on one or two tracks of those albums- "Honky Chateau" was the first EJ studio album recorded with the road band).
C. I put anset of Lakland Joe Osborn flats (GHS Precision flats with a very slight difference in guages) on my Precision sometime around 1998. While I've experimented with rounds on that bass again three or four times since then hen, I keep comeback to THAT particular set of strings for that bass.
D. Most important, use whatever works for you and your basses.
