pwnedJimmyM said:I nominate this thread for dumb thread of the year. On one side we've got people who don't like SOAD and think they're talentless. On the other side, we've got SOAD defenders calling into question the abilities of anyone who criticizes them. Both sides are acting like babies.
SOAD is clearly not talentless. It only takes a couple listens to a couple songs to realize that. I'm not going to debate the merits of their music, but it is clearly wrong to call them talentless. You can say you don't like the music, but if you can't hear their talent, then I suggest that you really don't know much about music.
However, they are often very difficult to listen to. Quite often their songs sound discordant and screeching. So I can't blame the folks who don't like them. I don't like everything they do, either.
But what's most difficult to listen to is you babies whining when someone doesn't take your side. For the side who doesn't like them, you say they're talentless with absolutely no basis in fact other than you think they can't read music. That is just plain wrong and there is no argument about it. They have plenty of talent.
And for the side who likes them, you bring up how people who don't like them aren't playing arenas and selling huge albums. First off, the bands at major record companies who sell tons of albums pay tons of money to radio station companies and DJ's to insure that they get played on the radio. That doesn't necessarily mean that they don't deserve their status, because you can still not sell albums and tickets to shows even after buying your way onto the radio. But just because someone else doesn't have $3,000,000 to buy their way onto radio and therefore can't compete with bands who do doesn't make their opinions less valid. Are YOUR opinions any more valid? You're not selling tons of albums and show tickets, either.
So both sides really need to get over themselves. Quite frankly, I would like to see all of you shut up. Like them or not. What the hell difference does it make? Now go hug your families and be glad you're alive to make this stupid-ass argument and concentrate on stuff that actually matters.

xyllion said:Sure, it is always easy to pick on poor Spork. Give it a break. I hear that its father, Fork, ran out on the family when Spork was just a baby. Then Spoon had to turn tricks just to earn enough to pay the bills. Meanwhile Fork is running off with the exotic Chopsticks. Oh, the mixed up life of eating utensils.
Make that three effeminate gay males, as all three of those guys are/were super gay (I included original guitarist Ricky Wilson in that even though he's dead). And though it can be argued that Kate Pierson was hot once upon a time, Cindy Wilson...eh...xyllion said:Don't you go bad mouthing the B-52's. I mean like the band is pure genius. Take one effeminate gay male, two hot chicks, and an album full of danceable songs with meaningless lyrics, and you have created the ultimate party band. Ok, well, maybe they are a bit silly.![]()
