I never said they I was better than him, I just said that he is really overrated and should be better. Why should I be jealous of him, hes selling out arenas? Good for him. Although I have to admit that I was a big fan of soad when I was into nu-metal :ninja:.

p.s. You think their tempo changes are amazing? Listen to Dream Theater.

My point was that you had better be one hell of a monster player to be calling anyone from SOAD -- especially the whole group -- "talentless." That's just foolish. That's kind of like telling someone their feel sucks and not being able to walk even a written out line.

Bassist4life -- I'm familiar with Dream Theatre...they are indeed pretty swankalicious.

Well, here you go...you mentioned Dream Theater. Very talented players. As songwriters, I consider them completely without talent. Their songs bore me to tears. I have never had an album out on a national basis. I have never written a song that sold nearly as much as Dream Theater. Doesn't change my opinion of them, nor should it. Nor do I think not having hit records means that I shouldn't speak about them. If you do, that's your deal.

Hey, that was the most productive moment of this thread! Nothing on this planet can touch the versatility of a spork, except maybe Kevin Garnett, and to think I remembered something from my childhood existed on top of that, freaky. :ninja:

I may be the only one then, but I still enjoy their music. It lingers somewhere in the realm of speed metal/nu-metal/heavy metal, but manages to stay a bit poppy. I like it. I don't really hear a whole lot of bands on radio or MTV that manage to pull of such spastic changes.

That being said, I enjoy a whole slough of music, from jazz to funk to prog and The Mars Volta. I just think they are fun, and vastly more talented than a lot of bands you hear in the pop circuit.

The Mars Volta is my favorite band and yes I agree that they are much more talented than anyone these days. Of course talking about bands that have formed since 2000ish.

But they are my favorite of all time. They are fun, experimental, progressive, loud, heavy-ish, fast, and just beautifully done albums. I can see how they bore people to death but I have always dug ambient music.

FTM was a little too ambient though. The material was sick though. DITC was better I thought but slightly, more actual songs, not really better in quality, just more quantity.

I dont see why people dont like them more? If people are looking for something new and fresh, that seems to be the most original and fun thing ive heard recently. Cant wait till april when the new album comes out supposedly.
