It is really bright with an aggressive growl. “Another One Bites the Dust” demonstrates the stingray sound pretty well

I haven't received a shipping email yet. I ordered after hours last night. On Guitar Center's website yesterday, it listed "in stock and shipping". Previous to yesterday, it listed as pre-order. Once I receive a shipping date, I'll post back here.

So Guitar Center emailed me yesterday, to say the Olympic White bass is damaged. They said it was a open box demo with multiple scratches, and sent me a photo. I asked would the bass be discounted, they said the manger wasn't around til Monday. So I asked for a refund.

They're more muffled with the boost on, but only from the perspective of A/B-ing the sound of both one after the other. It doesn't sound bad at all in that mode. I have one and am selling it. (blue w maple board) The tone isn't a factor in that decision but rather when going back and forth from playing my Yamaha, my fingers feel scrunched together and I feel more comfortable having more of a finger stretch. I'd either have to play the short scale exclusively or stick with my long scale.

Hey: for anyone wanting to purchase and facing the back order dilemma... I found an additional source that has current stock and placed an order yesterday. (I cancelled my MF order from Feb 1st)

It's supposed to ship out on Monday. They are listed for $549, like everywhere else, but this company has a "request a deal" link. I offered $500 with free shipping and they accepted. (so about $540 with tax) Not sure how many they currently have in stock.

I’ve been playing a lot and I am getting used to the feel. I will be replacing the tuners with ultralites, the nut with a black tusq xl and having a thumbrest installed next week. I have also been thinking of later in the year having another cavity routed and another pickguard made so I can move the humbucker closer to the neck and maybe be able to switch back and forth in a few minutes by unscrewing and moving. I know that’s a crime but I’m addicted to the P sound :///

Well, just poop. I don't think I'm bonding with mine. I've had it for a week and this is only the 2nd time I've had it out. I seem to go for a Squier SS Jag or an MIM P/J Mustang. If this isn't going to be in rotation much, I don't need to keep it around.

I'm going to play it exclusively for the next few days and see if this changes.

Thanks. It may just need a string change. It seems better now that I've EQ'ed my amp. I'll probably have to do that whenever I switch between a P/J and the StingRay as they're two very different animals.

Make it HH with third party pickup and avoid the hassle of moving the pickup back and forth. You will have one of a king HH short scale Stingray...

edit: re-wire the push-pull pot to became a pickup selector, or you could use a blend pot replacing one of those remaining pot

The things I'm most interested in are the weight and the tone. Does it sound like a Stingray? Does it have any heft to it. I'd of course LOVE to hear samples too. Anything...

@Doctor Morbius even a little bit on what you DON"T like about it would be great. How do you compare it with Mustang P/J? Is it the feel of the bass, or the sound that you're not liking?

I was jumping the gun a bit in my earlier post. Once I EQ'ed my amp a little differently it sounded much better. I'm a big fan of flats, even on Strats, so I'll probably put some Chromes on it or something and give it some more audition time.

My only gripe with the guitar physically is the thickness of the neck. I'd prefer it to be "less" slim. However, it's not a deal breaker. It seems to be very well made and I'm impressed with the fretwork. It also sits comfortably on my lap.

Let me go put some Chromes on it and play it a bit and I'll post my thoughts.

EDIT: OK, the Chromes are installed and they've already made a YUGE improvement, IMO. The stock strings were like rubber bands.

A thin neck is one of the main things I'm looking for in a bass so your comment and remarks by others have gotten me interested. I just wish I could actually try one of them out instead of having to buy one of them without really knowing whether or not I'd like it! I hadn't even considered a Stingray until I'd listened to several videos and discovered that tone which really appeals to me. If you end up wishing you hadn't bought this bass maybe you could sell it to me!

I was thinking about this, but I like the three way switch and boost system and a second pickup would really make that complicated, and I don’t think it would be easy to find another neodymium stingray pickup designed for a passive system. Also I’m trying to do it cheaply lol
