Scammed?

Oh yeah, I meant to mention that before, in my various google searches for this (cuz I love a mystery) I cam across several pics of Fullerton/vintage re-issue guitars and basses with that blue wax pencil marking, so that's a positive thing. Also the serial number seems to work with some of my searches, my only wish is that there were more stamps/markings on the neck, anything on the back of the neck?

My worry is that it may be a Fullerton body with a replacement neck.

It's entirely possible that the bass is the real article, but the seller for some reason (intentionally or unintentionally) sent the wrong pictures. I'm inclined to think this is the case, given the information up to this point.

Here is the pot,

If the body is legit, and from the stickers and everything, I strongly believe the bass is legit from the Fullerton Era.
I still wonder why @Britbonic would have sent me pics from the online though.
I couldn't get a response from him, so I guess I will move on either way.

Thank you for all your kind words and helps.
My pop is doing ok, still haven't told him about this yet.
Now time to go practice on my bass skills to surprise him.
-any beginner bass recommendations?

From all we've seen of your bass, you needn't worry about authenticity, IMHO. I'd believe you as the seller. Lots of authentic Fenders lack neck butt markings. As for the pics, anyone with an extensive collection can make an error clicking. ...might as well give the benefit of the doubt and enjoy playing that beautiful axe!

I would love to, but I cannot justify having $2000 bass with my newbie skills, especially when I have 2 acoustic guitars-after selling 3 before I join the military!

You'll likely have a lot of downtime in the military. That's where I taught myself to play bass.

That's really cool!
I actually had a quesition about my instruments-my recruiter was not able to answer me (along with other many things). How many instruments can I bring with me?? I knew I was not going to bring all 5 acoustics with me, but is 2 too many? They are super high maintenance, so thinking about getting either rainsong or something along the line.

Initially, the answer is zero. You won't take anything to basics. If you have a long AIT (or whatever they call it now) you may be able to have something sent to you. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until permanent party and have someone mail the instruments to you. Depending on your setup there, if it's required to be locked up, maybe you'll only have room for one. That will vary greatly and there is no real answer. Assuming you're single, think something like a college dorm if you're stateside. What's your MOS?
