Dunlop nickel round wounds for the most part.

I used the Stainless Dunlop Super bright (Non Marcus) strings, and they were a little rougher on the fingers. But, damn they sounded good when you would heavy hand them with great snap for a lower tension string (40-125). I will give the DR ro7nd cores a shot on the studio 5 as they have done well on prior basses. Its all about the right string for the instrument. With the EMG 40's, I really contemplated EB Cobalts or even Pro Steels, but want that piano like tone with good attack when needed. This bass will likely sound good with swamp gut strings, and I can't wait to hear the Schecter with new gauge metal.

Anyone have the new Omen Elite 5? Trading my Stilleto studio 4 for one. As much as I like the studio 4, I just haven't bonded with it, and I need a 5. Tell me about your Omen elite 5, or 4.

I got this old thing out of storage today. It’s been on closet duty for most of the year in lieu of my Ibanez Roadstar II RB630 but today they traded places.

I’ve had the Raiden since my first Father’s Day in 2014. It’s currently wearing some old D’Addario ProSteels 45-100 tuned in D Standard and it feels just right. After a long hiatus from playing it I'm going to put it back into the rotation and see what I think. Sometimes we just need time apart to remember what drew us together in the first place!

I find this bass to be incredibly versatile. Passive VVT setup with a push-pull for humbucker or single coil mode. It can do so many different sounds.

On a side note- the pots move around a little. Can anything be done about that?

Nice Schecter! I have a Schecter w/ the same body with active electronics and have thought about going all passive, your description makes that sound attractive.
For the pots, remove the knob and check if the retaining nut is loose. If so, remove the panel behind it, hold the pot from behind so it doesn't twist, and tighten gently with a tool (I usually use an adjustable wrench). If the nut is tight but the shaft is loose in the pot itself, you may need to replace.

Trade my Stilleto studio 4 for an Omen Elite 5. I think I am in love with it. Gotta get rid of those EB rounds first thing. Probably going to throw some GHS Bass Boomers on it.

If "probably" means you're on the fence about strings, I've had great results with DR Hi Beams (ss) and DR Pure Blues (nickel) on my Schecters.

No probably about getting rid of the EB's that are on it. Just not sure what I am going to put on it. I was looking at the DR Pure Blues. I dont think GHS Boomers will work on a 35" thru the body. If I am wrong, someone correct me.

I am not a fan of steel roundwounds. I have a set of round core Boomers on one bass and like them. I also have GHS Pressurewounds on two basses and like those also. I dont think the Pressurewounds will work on 35" string thru either. Once gain, someone correct me if I am wrong about either set of GHS. I have not seen an extra long set in either and not sure the long sets will be long enough.

Ever since the Apocalypse came out it's been a dream bass of mine. Couldn't justify laying down the dough, but recently saw this Omen Elite 5 hanging on the wall of a GC and knew I had to try it. As far as I can tell, it has the same pickups. Has a couple dings and a missing knob, so that was factored into the cost. Not really a fan of the clear knobs, anyway. The setup is pretty good already, just need to adjust the action a bit. Sounds and feels great. Glad to have a Schecter again.

I have the Omen Elite 5 also. The Apocalypse has the USA Schecter j buckers. The Omen Elite has the Diamond series Heretic j buckers. Very similar pickups. The controls are the same.

DR Hi Beams started losing volume on my Studio 5 B String. I replaced the strings with Pro Steel EPS 170-5 and cannot explain how hard the low mids rattles dental work loose. I noticed a big difference in low end growl and volume. After a slight truss rod tweak, the action and sound is perfect. The EB Super Long factory strings must have been a lot of neck pull. I still had to loosen the truss rod quite a bit after the pro steels were added..

Glad you got some strings on that you like. I tried 2 other types of strings on my Stilleto studio other than the stock EB's and never had to move the truss rod. I kinda regret trading it off. It played so good.

Put new strings on my Omen Elite 5, but as I was tuning up the 2nd string the tuning machine stopped turning
The peg keeps moving, but it won't tune any higher.

Pull it. Dissemble it. Reassemble it and make sure it's functional. Then restring. Tuners ate simple machines, you'll be fine.

Took apart all of it that I could, but unfortunately it is enclosed so I'm unable to get to the gear inside. Every so often it makes a click, as if something is getting stuck.

Go to Schecter web page, scroll to the bottom to technical support, shoot them an email. They have excellent customer service and should answer you within 24 hrs. They will probably send you a new tuner.

I just acquired the below short-scale, 6-string, piccolo bass. (I've tuned it in fourths, E-F.) I'm very impressed with it, and now I want the bass version, particularly the 5-string.

I've never owned a 35-inch bass. I see that Schecter worked hard to keep the reach on the 35-inch 5-string low: the bridge is very close to the edge of the body (closer than on the 4-sting), so the upper strap button ends up near the 12th fret, in about the same position as on the 34-inch 4-string. I'm therefore guessing that the reach to the first fret is about half an inch more than on the 4-string. Are there any owners of C5/SLS/Damien/Omen basses who can comment? How does the reach on the 35-inch basses feel? Is it noticeably farther to the lower frets than the on the 34-inch basses?

I have the Omen Elite 5 35" scale and the reach is great to the upper frets. Actually feels shorter than my 34" scale basses.

Thanks. Do you have any experience with the Ibanez SR (Soundgear) basses? That's mostly what I have.
