Well just ordered a C-5 GT bass and unfortunately on backorder but well worth the wait.
It’s here! Hell of an instrument.. p basses way better than most of my p basses.

Evening all when I finally get my c-5 GT bass will want to replace the strings since I'm not a big ernie ball string fan so curious what manufactures make extra long scale string that will fit it so i can keep stringing it through the body? Thx B

They look great! Both of 'em...all ten strings. Very classy looking. EdBo would be lovin' it.
His sound is pretty clunky. Probably something like Dadarrio Pro Steels.

I’ve got a 2014 Riot 4 that I’m getting back into playing. Looking for string advice. I have daddario pro steels XL on there now.
I play a mix of fingers and pick. Haven’t decided which I really prefer and because I’ve been focused on playing guitar for the past few years, my fingers are pretty rusty. I like to play punk, metal, blues, instro surf.
Suggestions?
Also have been thinking of upgrading the bass altogether. Am I crazy to do that? Will this Schecter give me all I need? I do recall really enjoying it when I demoed in the store and bought it. Also never really felt like it couldn’t do what I needed. Now though I think I can hear differences in tone better and am wondering if I need a p bass or ric or something.

Riots are great basses. What don't you like about it? I personally use Dunlops but string choice is personal.
Not sure what I don’t like about it. May just be a case of “hey, what else is out there since I can now afford something nicer if I want?”. Bit of GAS I suppose…that and I’m wondering if I’m missing out by not having a P Bass or a Rick for what they are great at.

So, newby bassist that joined the Schecter Club. I pick up a C-4 Apocalypse on Sunday as a Musician's Friend Stupid Daily and it arrived Wednesday. I would say it's intended market was metal fans. Me, I do rock, pop, blues, country, all in the "classic" era, not head banging metal. While not in the expected fan base for the instrument, it has good feel and action and seems to be a quality instrument should be a big help on learning bass.
I would think experimenting with strings might be a good idea.
Try a set of EB cobalt flats. It might calm down the “ clankiness” if you don’t like that and with how smooth they play and feel, it will make getting back into that much easier.
I have the EBCF on my Ibanez PJ and Black beauties on my schecter. The flats are so smooth while the Black beauties are on the opposite side and feel like cheese graters on the fingers. But they do have a nice tension.
Even if you were to go out and get a new bass, it’s possible you would gravitate back to the Schecter. good luck.

Thanks brother. I was actually considering a set of black beauties. I think I tell myself I want smooth but am really a cheese grater guy at heart. Haha. I’ll consider the flats though too. Thing with flats, I’ve always thought they were strictly Motown and The Beatles territory. Good point about probably coming back to Schecter anyway. I’ve always been pretty impressed with what I got for $600. Between strings and playing around with knobs I probably will find that I have all that I need.
The Black Beauties look sweet on my bass ( studio 4 green with black hardware). But they are clanky. Since i currently don’t play with anyone, i am not sure if i really like them.( i am a metal head)
My Ibanez was purchased in the early 90s. After some new EMGs and trying flats for the first time, i love the combination.
I too gassed for something new. But i split equal time between the two of them. The both have fast necks and are comfortable, with the Ibby being just little more.
Maybe you need some distortion?
Funny. My other bass, that’s sitting in its case out in the garage, is an Ibby. It’s an SG(can’t remember the number) that I bought off some dude for $70. Seems like the clankiness is kind of a good sound if you’re playing metal, right? I get that it might not be what you want when playing outside of a band context though. I’m not in a band at least not yet and with all the different genres I like to dabble in maybe I need to avoid the clank.

Maybe I do need some distortion…I’ve got a green Russian pi fuzz that is in my guitar pedal board. Might be pretty kick ass with bass. Also have a Spark amp which I guess has a ton of options for bass. Haven’t explored that yet. Been really stuck in playing guitar for a long while now. Excited to get back into bass.
