I had the CS pickups in a Spector Euro. You think they're gruntier than Fishman? Wow, that's saying something.

Interesting conversation. I'll admit that the first time I tried Fishmans on a Cort bass, I was not exactly thrilled nor with any Youtube videos I've seen on these pickups. However on a Spector NS Dimension, that I own, I find the Fishmans to be very grunty and growly, much more than any EMG's I have ever used, although I've never tried CS's.

I can also add that the Fishmans sound unlike any other bass that I own and I own 23 at the moment. As an example when I played the Spector NS Dimension, with flat EQ on a gig, through a Genz Benz Streamliner and two UBER cabs I completely copped Jason Newsted's tone from Enter Sandman. And when playing it through a Mesa WD800, with the same two cabs, The tone was brighter but still grunt and growl galore. No way have I ever done that with EMG's. BTW I am an EMG fan in case it is not coming across that way. So yeah, interesting conversation.

I agree with this. Interesting with @TonyP- 's observation. Gotta be in the eq'ing, because the Fishmans take hardly anything, maybe a touch of treble and bass, to get to Spector zone.

They're the same size. Honestly, I wouldn't change them if I were you. HZs are more flexible, imo, because they're just passive DCs. A lot of people don't realize that. Crank the gain, and you're golden.

The bass is actually an ESP LTD F-1005. But my other three basses are Schecter Stiletto Studios. I just plugged the ESP into a Roland GoMixer Pro-X, with my phone for the track. You are correct...no effects, and also, no amp or anything...just on-board Fishman favored a hair towards the bridge. Season treble and bass to taste.

Yeah I figured it was your F-1005, just wasn't sure if it was through an amp or not. Sounds just like my Dimension. I'm thinking the SLS Elite should be pretty similar which would be great. I really like the finish, body style and neck on those basses, so the Fishman Fluence would be the frosting on that cake if they are similar.

Hey Man, please don’t think I’m trolling you or just doing a jerky internet thing. That is not my MO. I just giving my observation, to my ears. That is all. Maybe I can record something soon. I’m tracking a lot for another project right now but maybe next week.

Here is the pickup combo I’m speaking of with a DC in the bridge and a CS in the neck. I come in peace :thumbsup:

I'm with you on the HZ's. The only thing I'd ever do is change out the preamp but I honestly can't come up with a valid reason to on my Stiletto Custom other than adding a mid control.

Indeed different strokes for different folks, as I checked out that vid. I'm with the DCs/HZs, because they seem to have more authority/anchor to them. The CS certainly is P-Bassier, so I just increase my HZs' gain and crunch with an SVT/Polytone patch on my Zoom pedal (Polytone is a Minibrute III cab sim). I suppose this is an alternative to installing different pickups, as the possibilities are endless.

If you guys were local New England folks I would invite you for bass hang…Those pickups, with ebony board neck through, a heavy right hand, compression and GK. Just has that tone.

I'm moving to near Baltimore next month, so further away. But, I have a bunch of flyer miles...God knows I could use a different vacation destination.

Yeah, I'm actually pretty happy with the sound overall. I was mostly curious about my options. I usually run blend more or less centered with bass boosted about 50% and treble boosted about 10%. I get a nice tone that way. Sometimes if I go too far towards the bridge pickup I don't love how the mids sound. It's a little hard to describe. Maybe I'll play around with it some tonight and see if I can put my finger on it.

I have been playing with the dip switches and have found a few settings I like with different EQ combos but haven't settled in on which setting is my favorite.
