I think EMG did themselves a massive disservice by ever attaching the "HZ" addendum to the pickup name. It implied they were cheap versions meant for offshore instruments in the late 80's/early 90's and were second rate. So now, if most players are aware of what they are they automatically think they're garbage.
I agree. The pickups are actually nice and high quality. They're just passive instead of active, but with a preamp they sound great. I've thought about changing them out for active before but mostly as a science experiment more so than an "upgrade"

One of my basses is a Schecter. It's a Stiletto Stealth 4 I named Millicent after a character in a book series I like. It's light (less than 8 pounds), balances well (first position is an easy reach), sounds great (I LOVE the P/MM combo), plays great, looks great... Overall, it's a great bass. It's a backup for my main (a heavily modded ESP/LTD HTB-600). Both of my basses were bought preowned for far less money than they're worth.
The only thing I don't like about my Schecter is the bridge. The saddles don't have intonation screws/springs, so having to loosen the string, loosen a saddle's set-screw, and move the saddle back and forth with my fingers makes intonation a pain in the neck.
I modded mine with Dunlop Straplocks and a Hipshot Xtender. And plan to change the bridge in the future.

Thanks. That one was a Guitar Center rescue, circa 2011. It was a preowned ESP/LTD HTB-600 Children of Bodom sig model. It was sitting in the corner of Guitar Center, covered in dust, paint chipped in places, overlooked because of its unconventional body shape... so I played it a bit and looked it over. It was a nice bass with quality components. A Buick at a Chevy price. I was in the market for a backup bass, this one was way under budget (and I was able to haggle some more), so I used the remainder of my budget to have a luthier friend of mine do that amazing paint job and swap out the active EMGs for passive Duncans and a VVT controls.
My Schecter was a recent Sam Ash rescue. I paid far less than it's worth. It was a preowned bass that was in practically new condition. I've had people jokingly try to nick that one from me. And the tech I had do a setup on it said that while it was on his bench, everyone asked about it. Definitely a great bass. Once I get a bridge more to my liking on it, it will be even better.
Ok Schecter fans, I was wondering if anyone had seen a stargazer in the wild recently? I seem to have thing for schecters of the 2000s. I have a model t and a 004 both from about 2007 - 08 but a stargazer would be a nice addition.

Today I celebrate 10 years with my Schecter!
Played the Michael Anthony live last night for the first time. I put some EB Cobalt Flats on it.
Just wow! It sounded great and played beautifully. One of those nights where the guitar felt like it was making me a better player.
Got some great P-Bass tone out of it. I'll be taking this one out a lot from now on.

Out of curiosity - does anyone in the club own a Corsair bass? I'm thinking of getting one, but can't find much info on how it sounds with roundwounds... I'm not much of a flatwound enjoyer, unfortunately. Just curious if anyone has one currently, and your thoughts on it.

Modded with an 18v wiring harness for the electronics.
This was the second bass I ever bought, many moons have passed since that day. Still love the instrument. It’s been very reliable and sounds great. It seems to excel at drop D tuning, so that’s where it typically stays.

Ny newest acquisition...a "used" Evil Twin 5, courtesy of GC's used site. Got a great deal, and surprisingly got a new factory Schecter case included in the price!
The case is nicely robust and plush, having exceeded my expectations for sure. Now, the bass is downright nasty. It has really low action with my beloved Elixir strings, and is growly as all get-out. There are no weak/dead spots, either.
