Schecter Owner's Club, pt 2

Here are my 2 latest Schecters. A Custom 5, with active pups. Light as a feather, but booming sound. And a Diamond 4 Jazzy bass thingy. Heavy as a 65 Cadillac. My gawd, my shoulder droops by the end of the 2nd set. lol.

I get these basses at dealer cost from my rep friend, so I test them out and keep turning my stock. lol I've kept the 5-bagger for a few years now because I love it. So silky smooth and fast neck. The heavy Jazz bass thing will go soon. I've used it in only 2 gigs, but I can't handle the weight of it. Great neck, very easy to play and pound out the grooves. But the weight. Jeebus! Anywho, here they are;

Here's my elite 5. Got a quick question for you guys. My tone seems a little generic to me. When I play reggae i can get a killer round tone soloing neck pup but other stuff(classic rock, funky style stuff) I have trouble finding a sound I like. Am I just trying to get a sound out of something that's not built for that or do I just need to do more tweaking eq and effects wise? I play through a Bass pod xt live and an Ampeg B100R.

I have the exact same model and have never had a problem getting a good rock tone from it. Definitely play around with your EQ settings and try it straight into your amp. You might also try replacing the battery with a fresh one to make sure the onboard curcuit is getting enough juice.

Thanks happi, I realized after posting that, that I had flatwounds on it because they're so much easier on my hands and maybe I should just suck it up and put my rounds back on it (Duh):rolleyes:. I put those things on it and my highs lit up like a damn Christmas tree!! Slap tone for days! I think I'm using the ones that came with and I think I'm going to start the search for some new ones. They seem a little light compared to the Chrome 45-132 flats I had on it before so I think I'm going to try something a little heavier. I was looking at the Robert Trujillo signature Dunlops stainless 4 with a nickel B string cause he's one of my heroes from the infectious grooves days and they're only 20 bucks and maybe some D'Addario 45-130 halfrounds. Do any of you guys swap out the stock pups on your elites? They seem ok to me but I'm still a little green on the tone/electronics side of things and I probably wouldn't know the difference until I tried something else out. Let me know if you have any ideas. Nice to see the new members still flocking in....

Has anyone seen the new Diamond P 5? I just got the Schecter catalog today and am highly intrigued. Haven't been able to see one in person. Seems like the strings are spaced wider then the Stiletto models..I was thinking of picking one up for slap style.

OK.. I'm not a Schecter owner - yet. Looking for some advice from the experts.

My story - currently play a 2006 Fender MIM Jazz 5, and an Ibanez SG 5. Really, only play the Jazz these days - though the Ibanez is really easy to play, the tone is just plain crappy. I only play at church, through a big house system with massive subs. I am struggling to get a nice clear clean high end and at the same time good definition and crunch on the bottom out of the J-bass. Also, my old fingers struggle sometimes with the Jazz's neck.. Just not the easiest to play.

I've tried out a Studio 5 at my local GC. Seems pretty sweet. I've heard good reviews on the Stiletto Elite as well. The Studio does seem to be easier than the Fender to play.

Given my tonal requirements, do either seem to be a good fit? Or is there another Schecter that would get me where I need to be?
