Somebody sacrifice for the good of all...

Hook-up your rig to a Neo Schroeder. Mount an e-bow over the low B or E, whichever you have. Insert earplugs, crank the volumes up, and start the timer. When you see smoke or there's no more sound, stop the timer. Repeat with the same speaker configuration on a Regular Schroeder. Then post the times up on the board and ask for a collection...

:D
You better have it done three times each. A single sample might not be scientific.

All right already enough is enough. If you want to rant and attack one another do it with PM, this is rediculous.

Agreed! Noone wants to read that back and forth nonsense.

Back on topic.......

A little more feedback on my 1210 since I've had a couple months to gig with it almost every weekend and get to know how to dial in my tone easily. Three words......I LOVE IT! Great tone, tons of low end (unlike I had previously thought when I first got it), and light. I've almost come to the conclusion that it sounds best when I run my EQ almost flat, maybe just a tiny boost on the mids but that's it. I'm glad I didn't trade the 1210 for a 1212 like I had earlier wanted to do. The more I play through it the happier I am.......like it's been said a million times in this thread......PUNCHY, LOUD, and LOW!

Opinions please!

Would a 1212L be about as loud/present as an Eden 410T? Am I correct to assume that the 1212 R (or maybe even the 1212Light) would be about as loud as an Eden 410T? (That's sufficient volume for my needs now.)

My F-1X/PLX1602/Schroeder 410R setup is just sooooo powerful, it's probably overkill for my needs and back. So I'm thinking of selling my 410 Regular and replacing it with a 1212 Light. For example, on one gig we had 2 drummers, 3 guitars, and a keyboard, all of which were mic'd. I wasn't going through the PA, and the sound man told ME to turn down. Man, what a cab! I just don't need all that volume now.

The Schroeder 410R is a LOT louder than the Eden 410T that I played for years. I know the 1212 would be pushing less air and it maybe wouldn't have the boom of a 410, but the coverage would still be there with 1212, right?

Thank you all!!

While I can't comment on the 1212, I do own a 1210 and an Eden 410T........both of which are the only cabs I use to gig with depending on which band I'm playing with. Personally I think the Eden is a bit louder, not by much though. I honestly can't compare them equally though since the Eden is 8 ohms and the 1210 is 4 ohms and I'm pushing more watts through the 1210. The main reason I think the Eden is a bit louder is just simply because it has more drivers. I prefer the Eden for my rock band because we play a lot louder than my other pop/acoustic/jam band which I use the 1210 with......I also like the Eden tone for the rock gigs.

So, what you are saying is that my actual experience was false. Wonderful. My credentials and my GPA speak for themselves. As well as the hourly rate that I command in my career. You don't get to where I've gotten in a career by not knowing what you're doing. Who are you and what have you done that entitles to to judge others so harshly. True in most instatnces the driver should and would act just as you decribe. But, in a real world scenario, they didn't. Again, you're taking my raising a concern with neo drivers as a personal attack, and you've responded with insults. If you know so much, then why didn't the 1st cab blow with the same wiring and power scenario ? Tell me, lay all that knowledge you have out there and explain it. The neo speakers are not as hardy. Does it make them bad, no. They sound great. But, the diminished power handling characteristics are something that should be considered when deciding on a purchase. That's the only point I was trying to make. Period. You took it to the next level with the insults and sarcasm. I'm done arguing with you. You know what they say about arguing on the internet. It's like competing in the special olympics. Even if you've won, you're still ********.

I am not personally attacking you at all. Please show me where I insult you, if you think that is the case, and I will gladly delete it because that is not my intention.

I simply want to state that this is not a scientific result and that it is only reasonable for you to state that your failure occurred under very unusual and excessively demanding circumstances. As such, it is not exemplary of the performance of neo drivers. In the same situation, I blew a regular 12" driver and I was only pushing my 300 watt SVT-2 Pro into the cab. While it may be possible to conclude that the drivers failed because they are neo drivers, it is MORE REASONABLE given the circumstances to conclude that they failed because of incorrect wiring. The possibility is there for either to be correct, but if you really think about how hard it was on those drivers as it was wired before, perhaps do a few simple calculations to find out that one of your 12" drivers was responsible for about 3/4 of the total power being dissipated by the cabinet, and that the two 12s were out of phase. You'll see why it is more likely that the failure occurred due to the faulty wiring. Again, I reiterate, I had one of the 12s in my 310212 fail under the same circumstances. It was out of phase and otherwise not evenly dividing power with the others. I have a tube amp and the regular drivers. Still blew. Can I conclude that these are weak drivers? No. I conclude that the wiring fault caused it.

I have a great appreciation for education and educated people. If you need to know I am far along in my Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria. I also have excessively large amounts of non-school oriented design, prototyping, and production experience. Practicality is my game, and in a case like this, a scientific approach is clearly necessary. I'm quite aware of the hourly rate you command, since I also may command that rate. So please do not assume that because I disagree with you that I am less intelligent than you.

Back to the cabinets. I plan a large review posted about my 310212 in the next few weeks. Hopefully that contribution to this bank of information will balance out this digression.

Well, it's starting to sound like the 1212 Regular is the way to go. If the Eden 410T is only "a bit louder" than the 1210, the 1212 will probably loud enough for my needs now. Seems I'd prefer the rounder, deeper tone of the 1212 over the more punchy-mid tone of the 1210. Is this a correct assessment of difference between the 1212 and 1210?

Thanks soooo much for all your input - very helpful!!

I did an A/B comparison of the Schro 1212 and 1210 (both regular) with the same head before I baught my Schro and there was not a huge difference between the two, least not to my ears. The 1212 has a little bit more bottom than the 1210 and it was still very punchy. It was more suitable for me. However, If I went with the 1210 I doubt I would be dissapointed..I think this is why it makes it so hard when picking between a 1212 & 1210 - they are very similair.

I have the 1210 and it is very punchy but i cant help thinking i should have gone for the 1212. Im in the UK so couldnt really try the 2 before i purchased and im not dissapointed with it but i do miss the sound of a 1x15 and i guess the 1212 is closer (and jorg said it was as well)
But i do now get to hear every note i play (right or wrong) and that in itself is worth the money.
I Havent tried to turn the low freq up to much on my ABM as the rig sounds nice and clear but i know i can get more out of it if i want.

"I am not attempting to start a flame war, simply telling you that flashing your "credentials" as you did again in this post will not make you more credible, particularily if you are stating FALSE information. I realize you are as entitled to your opinion as anybody else, but because of your experience and now the way you're writing about it, you are dispensing false information about neo drivers. The only point either way is that you cannot fairly state that you had a problem because of the drivers, when clearly there was another, much more probable factor as to why you blew them up. Any speakers would and should have fried under those circumstances!"

There is your post, word for word. It came off as insulting, especially the 1st part. It's over between us, argument wise. But, what exactly was your intent by posting that then ? My experience was my experience. That's the way it went down, whether you believe it or not. The neos are not as able to handle high power, that's the only point I was making.

By the way, I saw those step by step wiring instructions you emailed Jorg, very thorough and easy to understand. That would be a good write-up for a novice to follow, It would be hard for them to get lost. I used it as a guide in wiring the cab when the new drivers came in. I notice one thing in step 3though. If you hook that speaker up as described, the top 12 will be reversed and fire backwards. I checked 3 times. The fix was simple though, just reverse the wires on the top 12 and all will be well. The cab still ohms out at 4ohms total after the wires are switched, so it's all good. Do the 9 volt test on yours and check it, just to be sure. Jorg did verify my findings.

I'm not trying to argue with you here. Just trying to give a little heads up. Enjoy your cab, Cause I sure do love mine. Both of them :D * extends a handshake, in apology *

Fair enough.

As for my instructions to Jorg, I had switched the polarity of one of the 12" drivers before discovering the real problem, and as such probably left it that way and omitted that in my message. I'll have a read over what I sent and check out what I did, then append as necessary. I checked my cab with the battery after I rewired and it's all correct. Thanks for the correction on that!

I'm definitely enjoying it, and have received some seriously great comments on the sound from people I don't even know, so I'm pretty stoked. I plan on writing my big review once midterms are done this session, which should be middle of next week.

Cool, no worries. The battery test was how I found the problem. I just wish I had some more gigs on the horizon. My next plan is to pair the 310212 with a 1212, I may even bi-amp, but I haven't decided on that yet. My initial problems were disappointing, to be sure. But the way Jorg handled everything and went out of his way, makes me forget about that. I'm really pleased with the rig I have now. It really is just as modular, and only slightly bigger, than the 210xlt/410xlt Eden stack I sold to get it. It puts the Eden stack to shame. I thought I had good tone then, I had no idea how much better it could be. And, I had to EQ the crap outta that stack to get what I wanted. Even then, it would fart :spit: out a lot on the B string etc. Now my amp is set relatively flat, and I just use the BBE to dial myself to the room. Piece of cake. No farting, just pure booty, punch, & VOLUME.

I've seen a few posts indicating the ThunderFunk amps are under-rated. That is, they seem to put out more power than they're rated at. (They're just louder, given the same rating.) For guitars anyway, I've always believed a "Mesa Boogie" watt is louder than a "Peavey" watt. I have an SWR SM400 (bridged: 420w @ 4-ohms/400w @ 8-ohms). How accurately are the SWR amps rated (under, over, close, etc.) - compared to a ThunderFunk 420? Anyone A/B'd a TF420 (I'm asssuming it's about 420w) to an SWR SM400? Would the SM400 have enough power to get the "best" out of the 1210/1212s? Better suited with the Regulars or Lights (lower rating)? Which would you choose? Or would this be a bad or less-than-adequate combination? Anyone?

Is matching up the SM400 to a 121X just a bad idea? Are the old SWR amp any "better" or differenct than the newer ones? Anything akin to the Fender "vintage voodoo" thing? My hit-or-miss (mostly miss) experience with the old Fender basses is just that - they're old. I've come to realize that just because it's old doesn't mean it's better.

:help:

i have always heard that SWR stuff is a little quiet for its wattage rating. not sure if this is true, but i know i have read more then 1 review where the reviewer stated that they thought it was quiet for the amnt. of watts it was rated at.
everytime i read a review of a thunderfunk amp it seems the review says its "loud for 500 watts" or whatever the wattage rating may be for the model they are reviewing.
