Self-quarantine plans

I'm a school teacher in Ohio. My last day (for roughly 3 weeks) will be either today or Monday (no confirmation as of yet). I will spend time letting my right wrist heal a bit from "overusing it" at the last band rehearsal but I certainly plan on practicing songs and getting sharp on our set list. Health comes first so I have to patiently wait another day or two to let my wrist heal up. It's really going to be tough not picking that bass up!

I'm IT at a local government. I really have no idea what will happen. We are in Alaska on an island but Alaska Air flies in twice a day so... there's that. Just praying to the Good Lord that they figure it out before it gets here. People are starting to buy out all kinds of antiseptics, wipes, etc. Wife has a pantry full of food and we have an upright freezer filled with venison and fish--halibut and sockeye. Think I'm going to buy a dozen pizzas!

When we moved from Anchorage to Tampa in '91 (I was a photographer at KTUU), we had to give away a freezer full of salmon and halibut. That kind of broke my heart.

The idea is to slow the spread so medical care will not be swamped.

This is my takeaway. Covid 19 is highly contagious and if the hospitals get swamped then many more people die. If everyone can get the treatment they need then the mortality rate drops significantly.

hospitals in Italy are overwhelmed right now and people are dying because there isn’t enough equipment to properly care for them all. That could easily happen in the USA, and likely will.

So I’m staying home as much as possible and learning the ins and outs of my new synth. Also practicing bass a lot.

I'm not worried about the Coronavirus. It's the overaction that's more likely to get me.
Being " more worried about the over-reaction than the virus " ? seems at best short sighted to me but then I am of an age [ 68 ] and health status that puts me in the highest risk group for getting severely affected by this . If I was young and had no pre - existing health issues I might feel more like the OP does but the articles I have read that contained interviews with folks who have dealt personally with this virus point to this illness as being substantially , more debilitating than the normal seasonal flu . Several people in those articles said they had never been so sick before in their lives and the mortality rates for age groups from 60 on up are daunting and much worse than the typical flu rates . Downgrade the threat at your own peril . There is no doubt the actions taken to stem the spread will be very disruptive to folks at both little and great risk . If you can figure out a better way to deal with it - don't hesitate to try and make it known . Kelly

My wife has a high school class reunion in Alabama in a few weeks. Our plan was to fly to Indiana where she is originally from. See some old friends and family. Rent a car spend some time in Nashville. Then head to Alabama. Have had plan tickets, hotels, etc...for months now.

Fast forward to today. We have already been talking about not going and use the airfare for another trip when things calm.

FYI, we are from NW Washington. Only a few cases here but would have to travel from Seattle.

Now there is talk of closing travel in Washington...

We are staying home. Were are not as concerned about getting the virus as passing it to someone else that may be high risk.

We are not panicking as some seem to be. Just don't want to be a selfish fool as some seem to be.

Be safe all. You may not be high risk, but someone you know may be...

Well my plan is to do what I usually do anyway and hang around the house and try really hard not to get too bored. I have a lot of outdoor projects that I have been waiting to finish as soon as weather permits... BUT... I screwed that up yesterday by forgetting that I am now old and cannot use my he-man skills to pull fence posts out of the ground with my bare hands anymore. I will now be sitting quietly around the house trying really hard not to laugh or cough until my cracked ribs heal... :)

I went to the supermarket yesterday, it was pretty busy for day time mid week, there was one woman I saw dragging around 2 shopping carts jammed full of TP and spring water and boxed CAKES. When I got to check out she was in front of me, she apologized for the time she was taking and I asked her if she was buying for a dorm (there's a college and prep school nearby) and she said she was a home care aid and all this stuff had been requested by a client, none of it was hers. I told her she knew where to borrow some tp at least.

Looks to me like this will last longer than a month. The Problem right now is that without adequate testing, the long incubation period when a person is highly infectious before symptoms show, we have no idea what's out there yet.

I'll be spending some of my time, preparing things to help people avoid complications or even getting the COVid19 stuff.

There area a lot of things you can do to prevent getting sick or at least seriously sick. And few folks, except those in the natural health arena, know a thing about it. And that is sad.

So I'll be mixing up essential oils and etc. for nose sprays, throat sprays, cleaning solutions, and etc. that are known anti-virals. And giving out to friends and family.

And even mixing my own hand sanitizer stuff, since you can't get that any more. Even supplying family members with alternatives to Masks that aren't available any more.

I'll be taking more supplements and etc. to strengthen my immune system to avoid getting the stuff. After all, I am over 65, I have COPD, and I'm a cancer survivor.

And right now, all the experts can tell you is, Quarantine yourself and Wash your damn hands????? That is pitiful. Do the research folks and take some initiative to help yourself and help protect your loved ones.

I can post some DIY videos from a Texas Prepper/Survival group I belong to, and some other ideas for what you can do, if anyone wishes.
