Self-quarantine plans

I am going to mostly work from home if I can. Here is San Francisco a lot of folks are working from home as we have some infections in the city. I do social work with people living with HIV, so I can't just not work at all. But trying to do more things over the phone if possible. And postpone everything else that's not an emergency service. Interestingly there are some studies showing that some protease inhibitors in HIV meds can block or treat coronavirus, so my clients might end up being more protected than others. But it is too early to say.

At home I'll definitely being doing some shedding in the down time. I finally decided to learn Teen Town, which has been a fun challenge so I'll keep working on that. I am also trying to learn to play with a pick after 20 years of never using one, so I got some stuff to work on.

Over here (Norway) most things are shut down now. Schools, universities, kindergardens, pubs, sports arrangements, theaters etc etc. This means no gigs and basically no work and no income. This is hitting hard, for lots of people.

Yup. I really feel sorry for friends and acquaintances in the music/entertainment business losing their income the next weeks - or maybe months. I'm self-employed and my main source of income is repairing computers and doing service tech jobs for POS systems and such, so I may still get some jobs the forthcoming days. Almost all upcoming shows and gigs are cancelled, though.

I work in SF, and although I could WFH every day, I haven't been. I have been riding my bike to the city and back as usual. I work in my office and don't really come into contact with people. I eat lunch at my desk (bring it). If they tell me to WFH I will (I did today actually). Self quarantine won't change much for me though - I still would need to work (attorney). It's not like an auto-vacation. Kids might be home, which honestly would be a PITA for them and for us.

IT Worker here for a large teaching hospital. Students were told to go home today. I was at our primary data center working on a little thing and our primary virt guy was racking a whole pallet of servers to support remote classes and non-patient care folks working from home.

So I'll be working, and depending on how much crap goes south or troubleshooting things we have to do, will dictate my workload, but I'll have to be online working 8 hours a day for normal workdays. I have just started recording again and have a a lot of things I want to do there. I 'm not going to hole up and do nothing. My band is looking for a new singer, so we'll at least be trying out new singers once a week for the next few weeks, unless things get really bad. My wife works in the service industry and she is loosing a ton of hours already. I wouldn't be surprised if they told her not to come back, so she is in a tough spot since she'll be virtually unemployed with no opportunities available, so that is going to make finances very tough for a while.

It's going to be a bumpy ride for the next year.

Yeah we already started cutting back hard on spending. We were going to Hawaii this year (big vacation of the last 3 years) but that is being postponed to pay off all our debt in case something happens, as I work in the oil industry...

Every time you come in your house - wash your hands!!
Wipe down your counters.
Wear clean clothes and use clean towels.

I'm about to call an airline and see what I can do about my trip next week to visit my parents (both over 70) and nice and nephew (both under 3).

If I get stuck at home, I've got a set list of about 80 songs for some gigs way down the road I need to work on. I've got lots of yard projects I can work on. Online classes I need to get done, etc... More than enough to keep me busy.

if you're going to wipe down your counters, how about your door knobs, part of your doors you touch coming home and light switches that you turn on before you wash your hands?

and always wash your hands after handling money or cards that are always touching your cash. i cut down my illnesses dramatically by doing that and using wipes on shopping carts. used to average 5 illnesses per year; after i made those changes, down to two per year, and those are mostly from my husband's job where he has to talk to sick coworkers face to face in small spaces.

i'll be hunkering down when the signal is given in these parts.

i just had the shot-off valve and the release valve modified so that i can operate them by wifi:

I probably will keep working. I’m an attorney in private practice. Might be nice to not have court for a while. I assume I will probably get it. I was just at the jail today. I washed my hands and my face both when I left and when I got to my office but those places are like petri dishes.

I'm a public defender in criminal court and they don't seem to be cancelling court or even holding fewer court dates (although I wasn't at work today for non-virus-related issues). It's really a Petri dish down there and everyone seems to be acting like it's not happening.

I have half a mind to go out and get intentionally infected, and get the darn thing over with. ...
Don’t do it!!! I just finished recovering from the COVID-19 virus. It wiped me out for over 3 weeks and was by far the sickest I’ve ever been in my life! Not being able to breathe effectively is horrendous. FWIW, I had a bad case of the H1N1 virus in 2010, and COVID-19 is much, much worse.

I have a few friends who thought of the same thing, similar to when we were kids and would go to chickenpox parties .

My mom did that to me when I was about 10 years old, but chickenpox for a child is merely an annoyance, while COVID-19 has a truly substantial mortality rate.

I'm not worried about the Coronavirus. It's the overaction that's more likely to get me.
I really wish that were true, but it most certainly isn’t! I wont bore you with details, but I actually know what I’m talking about and, unlike most people, I am not just regurgitating crap someone spewed on television. Don’t make the mistake of underestimating the threat, be very vigilant, and err on the side of caution. Or don’t, and just leave things up to Darwinism...

yeah, court seems like a great way to get something from someone. recycled air in rooms full of people who could have corona, contagious pneumonia, a virulent strain of the flu.

i was called to be available for jury duty this week. haven't had to go in yet, but i don't want to get corona OR the flu or anything else. i'm over 60 with diabetes, slight lung damage and other stuff, and the CDC says people like me shouldn't be in crowds or rooms with lots of people. l.a. county court, however, feels differently. i was switching to a new doctor, and he doesn't believe in notes for jury duty unless you're bleeding out of every orifice.

i called to find out what measures could be taken to isolate myself there, and i talked to a woman who really wasn't listening, sounded jaded and bored, didn't care and didn't believe me - or, apparently, the CDC. she said if anyone was sick, they simply wouldn't come in; they'd call the jury room number on their summons. i've checked every inch of my summons, and there is no number fot the jury room - just the number i called, that has no access to the jury room.

besides, people who don't make much money will come in if they've already taken time off for jury duty as they may not have any more time off they can take and need their jobs to pay rent.

I was a PD for 10 years and one month. They didn’t close court until two days before Hurricane Irma. I don’t miss that job.
